paul_5 Posted April 10, 2022 Posted April 10, 2022 That bass is a red herring; it’s another filter! 😉 2 Quote
andyaber Posted April 10, 2022 Posted April 10, 2022 Looks like a 24 fret neck and I'd say that looks like a p type pick up, but looks like a Jazz. Quote
Eldon Tyrell Posted April 10, 2022 Posted April 10, 2022 To me it looks like to make the HB basses even more affordable, Thomann decided to reduce costs further by using less paint for the finishes 😉 1 Quote
andyaber Posted April 10, 2022 Posted April 10, 2022 Pick up is also very close to the end of the neck. Not a criticism just closer than most Precisions or Jazzes. Quote
stewblack Posted April 10, 2022 Author Posted April 10, 2022 Needless to say I'm a bit excited. But got to move something out to make room. Quote
Geek99 Posted April 10, 2022 Posted April 10, 2022 Like the trans blonde … and the tort … excellent choices @stewblack WTF is it ? Quote

Been wrestling with is it a jazz or is it a p. They recently brought out some well funky guitars but this is the wrong finish for a bass version of those. I guess these campaigns are designed to get us talking, and I'm quite happy to play my part. Quote
NJE Posted April 10, 2022 Posted April 10, 2022 Looking at a few social media posts, a few people seem to think it’s their version of the Aria Pro Detroit bass. Not sure why or how Harley Benton would be copying a bass that is currently available but from the small screen shot it does seem to match up. Quote
Woodinblack Posted April 11, 2022 Posted April 11, 2022 Not terribly exciting. I did play an aria cat II bass for a long time though, and it was fine. But wouldn't really rush out and get another and they can be got very cheap. Quote
Bleat Posted April 11, 2022 Posted April 11, 2022 Is it part of the new Harley Benton " Can't Be Arsed To Paint It Properly" range? 1 1 Quote
stewblack Posted April 11, 2022 Author Posted April 11, 2022 I'm very excited. Harley Benton is the brand I'm most excited about. My chance to own expensive basses from new, without spending a fortune. Quote
Woodinblack Posted April 11, 2022 Posted April 11, 2022 Except the aria would be what is described as a budget bass. Seems an odd choice, undercutting other manufacturers budget series. Quote
Guest Posted April 12, 2022 Posted April 12, 2022 A bass made from planking stolen from a victorian era beach hit? Quote
Jean-Luc Pickguard Posted April 12, 2022 Posted April 12, 2022 It might be the same bass rebadged rather than a shameless copy - just as they rebadge some (joyo?) pedals as HB. Not something I'd have on my xmas list. 1 Quote

It's a double octave neck, it goes further into the body than most Precisions or Jazzes, so the pickup could be in the traditional position relative to where it hears the string. 1 Quote

But I take your point, if it's the same as a £400 Aria, given the HB pricing structure it would cost about 50 quid Quote
stewblack Posted April 12, 2022 Author Posted April 12, 2022 Hmm. Beginning to wonder if maybe others don't share my love of these Harley Benton basses Quote
Jean-Luc Pickguard Posted April 12, 2022 Posted April 12, 2022 I've not been tempted to purchase a Harley Benton lately. I used to have a HB uke bass but had to send two back before receiving one without QC issues whoch kind of took the shine off the experience. Some of the cheaper basses and guitars look like good platforms for modding, and their higher priced ones look to be very good value but they don't really excite me like a nice Fender mustang (bass or guitar) would. They were 'Dekos' and less than £30 each, which kind put the shine on the experience. 😁 Quote
