I've been asked to audition for a band playing originals. They've not got anything recorded yet other than a couple YouTube videos. Is there anyway I can get an mp3 from YouTube to drop in my DAW?

There are a few online sites which do Youtube to MP3 if you google.  I've done it a few times, but can't remember which one(s) I used.

They did give me the MP3 file, but sure how dodgy they are in terms of any other crap which may have come with it.

If you're using a PC to watch/listen to Youtube videos, then Audacity is free and reliable for creating MP3's. You may need to fiddle around a bit to get the right routing - I think WASAPI is the usual for Windows. There's plenty of advice online about this.

Connect your phone to your interface, then play the YouTube video and record it into your DAW.

I haven’t used it for quite a while but do you know if that would work with GarageBand and the focusrite interface

I was just using this one yesterday morning. first time I'd come across it but it's pretty quick. It's a simple copy and paste, click a couple of buttons then download it to your PC in jig time

Aye lad.  Enter the link for your song, select the file format, click go, within 2 or 3 seconds you have a fine with your song on it.

Ive done it through Audacity in the past, but this is soooo much simpler and a helluva lot quicker.

It would yes. Just treat it as a guitar or bass.
