tom.android Posted April 26, 2022 Posted April 26, 2022 Hi all, Considering trying a different pre in my BB2004 for 2 reasons: a) I want an active/passive switch b) the mid cut switch & knob on the stock pre is pretty useless for me So I’m looking for a 9v pre with the following controls: volume, blend, bass, mid, treble, active/passive switch. Functionally the same as found on the BB734/735a. Any recommendations? Thanks, Tom Quote
tom.android Posted April 26, 2022 Author Posted April 26, 2022 Oh! Also an ideal feature would be for the treble control to function as a tone when in passive. Basically I want the same as in a 735a. Quote
BassBunny Posted April 26, 2022 Posted April 26, 2022 I would suggest a Glockenklang 3 band, which does everything you asked for but the active/passive is a pull/push on the volume control so would leave a hole. I've got Glock's in 3 basses and love them. Quote
tom.android Posted April 26, 2022 Author Posted April 26, 2022 Thanks for the tip. I’d prefer to have the switch rather than push pull given the choice. Is there anything out there? Quote
BassBunny Posted April 26, 2022 Posted April 26, 2022 (edited) There are quite a few pre-amps that come configurable, ie the pre-amp capsule with a bunch of wires and you can wire whatever pots and switches you like. Bartolini, Aguilar, Darkglass to name a few, but none give you a passive tone control option as standard. That said you can add a passive tone to any pre-amp but that would be an additional pot. You could use a stacked pot for 2 of the bass/treble/middle controls and then add the passive tone that would work in active or passive mode. Edited April 26, 2022 by BassBunny Quote
independent.jerry Posted October 10, 2023 Posted October 10, 2023 Hey, it's been some time. Did you replace the preamp after all? I love the stock preamp on mine. As a matter of fact, it's the bass that's been on my stable the longest - got it from a yamaha endorser in 2008, after seeing nick fyffe playing live with those for Jamiroquai. It's got 11 year old chromes, the same set since Jan 2012. Its a deep mean thumpy funk machine. With this very old set, the mid-shift-thing knob it's really useful to notch the right freq for the mix. Quote
