Leftbass
Any Fender officionados'? I'd like to know if CIJ ever had a plain Fender logo on the headstock or is this dodgy?

Jap Fenders sometimes didnt use period accurate logos on their stuff, may well be legit.

OldGit
That looks right but for the Fender logo but that may be a left handed peculiarity ... You may want to talk to the Lefties as they may know more. steve-soar
Hi Paul, the build quality is top notch, much better than US Fenders. The neck especially has a great feel, with the gloss neck, fretting is great and the nut is well fitted. The general fit and finish all over is excellent, with good quality wood and a great paint job. I think mine is 1999. When I got mine, the action was very high, so began the long process of adjusting the truss rod, which is a pain because you have to take the neck off to do so but once this is sorted the bass plays really well. I was suprised how light mine was and this has benefits to its tone. Played acoustically, you can feel the bass pulsing, when you plug in, it has a superb low end and it can give you that tone that all Jazz Bass heads crave. The bridge lets it down a little because it's the vintage design, so I found that it could sometimes rattle when certain notes were being played and the saddles could move around. Like all Jazz Basses, the A and D strings sound a little quieter because of the camber of the neck making the A and D strings further away from the pickup than the E and G, Fender call this the classic fade. So to remedy these little faults, I fitted a Badass bridge, EMG pickups because they have a curved blade that follows the camber of the neck, thus giving an even string response, I also fitted a John East J Retro preamp (all of these where sourced second hand on Basschat). Played live it sounds amazing and can cut through anything to be heared and felt. Before the modifications it did struggle with notes played on the A and D strings but fitting any pickups that can cope with the vintage camber of a Jazz neck, which is a radius of 7.25 inches, where most modern basses use 12 inches radii can sort this out. Here's some pics before the modifications. I think the price they're asking is a bit steep but these basses seem to be getting rarer as it's hard to get them out of Japan. I think it should be more like £500-550. I was lucky and got mine from an Ebayer in Japan, his name is chingo123, he has basses all the time but usually all right handers. Hope this helps you, let me know if you need anything else. Steve.

He's called David and is a Kiwi living in Japan. He packs for armageddon and you get exactly what he says - and he does about 40 pictures of everything he sells on his auctions showing all the blemishes and any strange bits. I'd certainly buy from him again. Edited April 13, 2009 by OldGit

I can confirm that whilst your back of heel decals look right when compared to mine, my headstock decal is much more detailed. Can I suggest that the neck has been refinished and this is a replacement logo decal? Mine also says "offset contour body" and "Jazz Bass ELECTRIC BASS" - the "Fender" decal is gold Edited April 13, 2009 by Geek99

I'm sure it's a left handed headstock thing rather than refinish of anything. The standard headstock decals don't fit the left hookers.
