Tubster
My friend has 2 excellent Human Basses that he loves. His medical condition dictates that he gets a 5 string 34/35 under 4 kg < 1500 euro. He’s not a Fender man! all ideas most welcome
Guest
Lots of options new: Ibanez Yamaha Schecter I’m sure others will have great suggestions.
yorks5stringer
Human Basses cost between £1000-£2500, is that the sort of economy you mean or sub £200, sub £500 or sub £1000? Usually at the lowest price point you'll not get 'light'.
Tubster
My post did put <1500 sorry to confuse with economic - as you say everyone has his/her own idea of that!
Tubster
Yes, light is the driving force- under 4kg. His other basses are great but now with his condition, far too heavy.

pineweasel
I'd have a look at the Ibanez EHB headless range, lightweight and well balanced by all accounts.
uncle psychosis
I'd be looking at the Ibanez headless range. I bought one recently (the EHB1005SMS) and it was really good, but I sent it back because ultimately I am a Fender man!
fretmeister
Sandberg Superlight. They are amazingly light - they aim for 3.6kg on the 5 strings but sometimes they come in at about 3.3kg. There's one in the classifieds at the moment.
Tubster
Thanks for the EHB and Sandberg ideas - perfect.

tauzero
Nanyo Bass Collection. IIRC there's one in the marketplace at the moment.

My 5 string Nanyo is not so light, it's a whopping whole 4kg on my suitcase scales. My 4 string Nanyo comes in at 3.4kg. They are both the see-through finish sen bodied versions (forget which series). I need a lighter 5 string, so I'm currently looking at Ibanez EHBs - the question is long or short scale... 🤔
Grahambythesea
Gibson EB both the current and the previous 2013/14 model ( which I prefer) are about 3.5 kg for a 5er.
