Barking Spiders Posted May 11, 2022 Posted May 11, 2022 Listening to some of Stax, funk, Philly stuff it struck me that there are quite a few bands that started out as a house band for labels and got be to be successful in their own right. I'm thinking of Booker T and the MGs for starters. So, any other house bands or backing groups that did well for themselves without their leaders? Quote
Nail Soup Posted May 11, 2022 Posted May 11, 2022 The Band stared out as backing band for Ronnie Hawkins, then Bob Dylan. They did OK for themselves In fact, they must be the ultimate example..... they are actually just called "The Band" after all! 3 Quote

I'll add the Glitter Band. IMO it's a shame they were tarnished by their former boss' shenanigans, with none of their songs since getting airplay. Edited May 11, 2022 by Barking Spiders 1 1 2 Quote

chris_b Posted May 11, 2022 Posted May 11, 2022 The house band at Fame Studios went down the road and set up the Muscle Shoals Studio. That did pretty well for them. Quote

She had a lot to do with the formation of the Eagles, and toured with them and Pure Prairie League in the 70’s…I saw them in Denver…great concert! IMO, one of the most noteworthy musicians of that era and pretty much responsible for and entire genre of country/folk rock. Her documentary is well worth watching. 1 Quote

Guest Posted May 12, 2022 Posted May 12, 2022 Two of our band members have bought a posh pub cum restaurant that is oft used as a wedding venue and we're going to become the house band for bookings. A future of fame, fortune, and choking on vomit awaits! Quote

Dankology Posted May 12, 2022 Posted May 12, 2022 I may be wrong but I think Fun Loving Criminals started as the sort of B team band in a bar they all worked in. Quote
