If you're really committed to the idea of making it as light as possible, seems an obvious place to start. I recently bought a 2nd hand Hofner Shorty Bass for £75 - cheap as chips and weighs 2.3kg. If you can cope with the neck dive, there isn't much that'll be lighter. Hi yep indeed. This is why I suggested the Warmoth dinky P. They also make chambered and hollow bodied variants. Paint will be stripped if it has to be! Colin Chapman's approach would be that if it survived long enough to do an encore, it was too heavy. I take it you'll be starting with a headless cricket bat, as that gets rid of a load of unnecessary weight.

Did I mention ES-335, Lairat, Steinberger... I think I covered (sic!) possible materials, too. By the way, if this is new to you, many graphite necks are hollow.
