carlsim
Hi everyone... I love a 70s jazz look. Natural body, black blocks and binding... But i don't really gig 4 string basses at all but would like a cheap one sitting around when I fancy having a noodle... I am liking the HB JB-75 vintage series and I know people have played around with re-shaping the headstocks to make them look like the early 50s p basses... anyone tried it with the normal fender headstocks? Are all the HB headstocks the same? I have a SR5 clone and i can print a template and check it against that... Anyone got any ideas or tried it? Much love to the BC community! yorks5stringer
If you do a search on here, maybe under HB, maybe in Repairs you'll find a lengthy thread and some members have made templates which they will pass on: 'Kodiakblair' is a member who I think has done this or would know. PaulThePlug
All the P's 'n J's i think are the same and don't think there is enough 'meat' for anything but a '50s Tele... might 'just' get a scaled down small P or J Think this is the template most use... Page 6 Mike Dirnt... Have a print and a look on scaling the others...bass heads.pdf Edited June 11, 2022 by PaulThePlug
yorks5stringer
Should have read the OP properly, don't think (as said above) there is enough wood to do anything but a Tele...
Andyjr1515
To be honest, the HB-JB75 headstock is pretty close to a 50's Fender other than the 'beak' they have added to avoid getting into difficult commercial cloning territory. So you could certainly round that off as long as you don't add a Fender decal. A 20 minute job with a sanding block just round the edge and a few coats of clear varnish would do it. But is it worth it?
