MacDaddy Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 Hi any Status King bass owners out there, who have the bendwell? How deep is it? ta McD Quote
OutToPlayJazz Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 If memory serves, it's just over 1cm deep. The string tension is pretty high at that end anyway, so you don't end up bending that far. Quote

OutToPlayJazz Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 Yeah, should be fine - Is this on a wooden neck? The bendwell design on the Status basses is graphite of course, so the wood in that portion will have to be strengthened, as it's a very thin part of the neck. Quote

It's a Shuker so I'm sure it will be fine Quote
steve-soar Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 You'll easily get a semitone out of that and with light strings and the bearings, maybe 2. Quote
Kiwi Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 did you check to see whether the bendwell idea was patented by Rob Green? He could potentially make a claim against you and/or Jon if it is. Quote

In fact it doesn't appear as though the term BendWell has been trademarked either (although KingBass™ has.) TBH though, it's a fairly obvious solution to the problem of doing behind the nut string bends on a headless design. Quote
MacDaddy Posted April 15, 2009 Author Posted April 15, 2009 Actually I got it wrong - it's not just a wooden neck, there's graphite involved too. The bendwell is kinda my own design because it doesn't run across the whole width of the neck. It looks nicer than the Status ones too Quote

crez5150 Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 I can get a whole tone bend easily on my Kingbass graphite with 35-120 gauge strings.... Quote
crez5150 Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 It's ok.... but I probably use it two or three times during a 3 hour gig..... could do more with it if I thought about it I suppose.... have been using it more when holding Chords down and then bending different strings to create new chords which is quite nice....
