If memory serves, it's just over 1cm deep. The string tension is pretty high at that end anyway, so you don't end up bending that far.
thanks. The bendwell on my Shuker is going to be 8mm. Do you think that will be enough?
Yeah, should be fine - Is this on a wooden neck? The bendwell design on the Status basses is graphite of course, so the wood in that portion will have to be strengthened, as it's a very thin part of the neck.
yep wooden neck. It's a Shuker so I'm sure it will be fine :)

did you check to see whether the bendwell idea was patented by Rob Green? He could potentially make a claim against you and/or Jon if it is.

Doesn't look like it from the Status website. Normally it would say if a feature was patented. In fact it doesn't appear as though the term BendWell has been trademarked either (although KingBass™ has.)

TBH though, it's a fairly obvious solution to the problem of doing behind the nut string bends on a headless design.

Actually I got it wrong - it's not just a wooden neck, there's graphite involved too.

The bendwell is kinda my own design because it doesn't run across the whole width of the neck. It looks nicer than the Status ones too :)

It's ok.... but I probably use it two or three times during a 3 hour gig..... could do more with it if I thought about it I suppose.... have been using it more when holding Chords down and then bending different strings to create new chords which is quite nice....
