I have a SLB300, and I don't think that the fitted Helicore Light strings do it any favours. I used Helicore Mediums when I had a Double bass, and IMO they would give a better tone demo than the Helicore lights, but I appreciate that Yamaha have to give the instrument a broad appeal.

I have currently use Spirocore Lights and have string hight of 9-7mm at the fingerboard end, which gives me a bit of the old school "Heft"..

I love it.
