charic Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 Im currently in a new project and were seeking a singer and drummer in the cambridgeshire area. Cambridge bands is mainly people in cambs and we dont really want to have to travel that far. Were thinking more huntingdon/peterborugh area. Was wondering how you fellows go about finding new members? Quote
Thunderthumbs Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 We've been successful mainly on Partysounds www.partysounds.co.uk Quote
Geoff Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 There used to be a good bands forum in Peterborough called Borobands, but thats shut down now I think. Theres a forum called peterborough.net which has got a music section, which may be of some help. Ive been lucky enough to find band members just by word of mouth. Quote
Happy Jack Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 Your best bet is to find out where the local jam sessions are held, and become a regular. Within a few months you'll know a pool of local musicians, what standard they play to, and whether or not you gel with them personally. If there are no jam sessions local to you ... start one! Any landlord with an under-used function room will normally be pretty open to the idea of filling it once a week with thirsty musicians. And you get to be the house band. Quote
clauster Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 We use musofinder.com with some success. bandmix.co.uk is good too. Quote
leschirons Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 Stick a poster up on the wall of your nearest music shop. If it's a good shop, they'll have a couple of hundred people in over a weekend. Quote
BigBeefChief Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 I've used [s]adultfriendfinder[/s] formingbands.co.uk Quote
EdwardHimself Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 I find generally the websites don't work very well. Your best bet is to put an ad up in the local music shop, preferably one that sells rock orientated instruments. Quote
Oscar South Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 Hang out and play at open mic nights and just chat to people. Quote

It's a tough road finding people who are committed to making music...try musolist, it's quite good and go take a look at the ads at your local studios/music shops as others said. Good luck! Quote
rodney72a Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 Finding musicians is not that hard. Finding a drummer is. Quote
Shambo Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 You're going to need some sort of man trap... bear traps will work just as well. But what to bait your trap with? That's the question... Maybe some sort of regional media endorsed pissing contest would entice the ego of the local muso's. Prize being the barmaid at the local boozer? I'm sure she'd be game... so long as the prize isn't a drummer. Quote
YouMa Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 Ive just met some weirdo down the road, hopefully it will lead to something although i dont think my love of bernard edwards will go with his love of dylan, still i might get a free drink out of it. Quote

RhysP Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 Drummers & Guitarists can often be found looking for food in the bins at the back of hotels. Keyboard players & vocalists tend to favour damp, shady places - try looking under big rocks in a wooded area... Quote
lozbass Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 I doubt this will be helpful, but if I find any, I put the stone, back, cross the road, or sneak out while they're at the bar sorting fluff from coppers. After a 15 year career (if you could call it that), I'd had quite enough of musicians. Quote

His drumming has come on a long way in the last year as well, i can personally say i'm very happy with it :] Quote
peted Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 +1 for Musofinder.co.uk I've joined two bands from being contacted on that site, and also done a few more audtions for bands I either didn't get into or didn't like on the day. Quote
The Funk Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 If you're looking for a guitarist, go to a Robben Ford gig and take your pick! Quote

My studio's ready for use now, nice recording setup as you may remember I'm also searching for a good drummer in Cambs. Could you give me a heads up on any that are decent but don't make the lineup?
