Fred Leicester
I need to send my bass amp (Ashdown ABM500) to them for a service. They’ve quite rightly suggested sending in a strong cardboard box with plenty of soft packing inside. Can anyone suggest where I could get a suitably strong box from? yorks5stringer
BIke shop seems to be the usual suggestion for Basses but I reckon for an amp double box it with plenty of bubble wrap. Those large supermarket fruit trays ( loose apples and pears) tend to be quite thick and you could cut one down to fit.
bass_dinger
Fruit boxes are what I use - that. and PVA glue to stick the parts together. Two joined lengthways made a good box for a banjo (and the section on the middle was cut to make a neck rest). As for the amplifier, insert puns below about Orange amps, Apple Music, or a Pear of speakers... Dan Dare
Self storage companies - Big Yellow, Shurgard et al - sell large strong cardboard boxes. I bought a couple of dozen for my recent house move and they did the job.

I shipped my Ashdown Evo IV 600 using two fruit boxes from Costco, putting the amp in one and then turning the other over and locking it down. Wrapped the amp in loads of bubble wrap and it was basically cocooned in the boxed. Arrived there safely and got it back (repackaged) in the same packaging which I thought was resourceful and a thumbs up for my packing skills!
