Late to the party :( gorgeous looking bass, natural  no scratchplate or control plate,  my favourite combo. Dimarzio j types might be one answer. I have a set that have moved over several basses, humbucking split coils, so virtually a p pickup in a straight line. 

 

Lol autocorrect put humouring split coils at the first go.

I was about to suggest this. I once had a Jazz bass with DiMarzios fitted. It sounded brilliant - like a Jazz, but with more "bite" - it cut through the mix better, in a gig situation
