I think you'd be hard pressed to find a case that didn't fit one.  Pretty much any generic case would fit, plus the scores of fitted ones for P or J basses.  My current fave is the SKB-44.

I’m very happy using a lightweight Harley Benton LightCase (£41).  Fits on the back seat of the car and is a good compromise between a plastic or wooden hard case and a well padded gig bag.

I don't have a classic 50s P bass, but the only hard case I use for my '81 Pbass is a hiscox liteflite bass case.

Agreed, I think it would be hard to do much better than a Hiscox STD-EBS. I've got a proper flightcase with a CNC cut foam interior and I'm not sure it offers a great deal more protection - it's just a lot heavier and more awkward.

Going by the amount of Fender basses for sale that come with Fender hard cases that have damage on them I’d say Hiscox.

After going through three hard shell cases for my Pbass I switched to well padded heavy duty gig bags .
That old Pbass looks like it went through the Boer War.
