Just 500 watts , but more than enough power for my favourite room in town. If I think I need more power I can add another cab , or use my Forte as back end power , but the Choui is perfect for what I need for most gigs. Expand I can't imagine needing more than 500W I never get anywhere near nax volume with my Bass Terror, I saw one used in the Manchester O2. 1 Quote
Fishfacefour Posted January 29 Posted January 29 (edited) Enhanced pic from our gig on Saturday: Warwick star bass fretless > tuner> jhs pulp n peel comp> house peavey 300w 15" combo. Rattly, mid Focussed and loud enough on the small stage but pa support was massive adding the required weight for the ska and reggae set. Katana perched on top for the guitarist sounded good too. Edited January 29 by Fishfacefour Added katana info 4 Quote

I can't say much about the cab at the moment other than it's not a Monza, it sounds fantastic, punches way way above its size and weight, which incidentally is I think the lightest LFSYS model yet at under 9kg. All to be revealed in the near future.😉 Expand Although I am too waiting for the revelation by @stevie, I had a preview a while ago. The weight is a game changer. How did it sound with the ABM? I wish Ashdown would make them in a smaller form factor. Edited January 29 by Chienmortbb Quote

The ABM for me has always had a very flexible sounding pre-amp. Pairing it with this new LFSYS cab opened up a new dimension of flexibility and sound. I haven't really had much experience using full range design cabs before and I could hear so much more detail sound wise. The cab is not so much an FRFR design, probably nearer to what I would say VMFR( vintage modified full range ). It's a warm sounding cab and that may because of the choice of a Celestion driver. It works really well with the ABM, and has given me a new appreciation of just how good a swiss army knife of amps an ABM can be. The cab and amp worked well together and I think thats mainly because the cab does need an amp with a bit of available headroom to get the best from it. An ABM sits nicely on the cab in landscape mode but the dispersion horn would ideally need to be rotated 90 degrees to maintain the sonic benefits of the cabs design in a landscape setup. Expand @eude and I have been saying the same for years. Ashdown don’t seem interested in redesigning the preamp board to make it work… 2 Quote

A real shame, as they are one of the best amps on the market, but it feels like they've been left behind a bit. That said, I'd have another in a heartbeat, and if I ever ended up on bigger stages again, I would absolutely have one. 1 Quote
Bilbothebassplayer Posted January 29 Posted January 29 I have been using the MarkBass Alain Caron Combo 121 Lite for around 10 years now. It's a ridiculously loud amp (500 watt) for the size and weight but it certainly has its faults. From day 1 it has this hissing sound in the tweeter (seems to be a common problem with the model) but isn't noticeable when playing in a band. The D.I Sound on it is lovely and because it's Bi-Amp, I have played 6 string Basses and Bass VI's through it and it's never struggled with the frequency range but it is getting tired and beat up and It may be time to find me a younger model. I have been thinking about Phil Jones (oooh matron) but I just can't believe it would keep up with a drummer. Need to see one out in the wild I think. 1 1 Quote
bassace97 Posted February 17 Author Posted February 17 Rehearsals tonight for a couple of gigs next week. Decided to bring the full rig. Mesa TT800 and Subway 210 cabs. 2 Quote
12stringbassist Posted Monday at 14:05 Posted Monday at 14:05 (edited) This is my usual rig at the moment. I do have the option of swapping in a 4x10. Edited Monday at 14:06 by 12stringbassist 4 Quote
BassmanPaul Posted Monday at 16:35 Posted Monday at 16:35 I too use the 2x10 format (Acme) but I stack them on their ends for a vertical 4x10. Works so much better that way. Quote
bassace97 Posted Tuesday at 08:37 Author Posted Tuesday at 08:37 Used the venue’s backline last night, never tried a Blackstar bass amp before but it sounded great! First time using IEMs too, made a big difference! 2 Quote

Tape of the performance suggests this is the sound I am going to stick with. That said, we are Vox/harmonica/gtr/bs/ds, so not the loudest band in the world. But I had a fair bit of headroom and was getting full wattage into a 4ohm cab. 1 Quote
Chienmortbb Posted Tuesday at 17:24 Posted Tuesday at 17:24 The 200 watts GK amps use the ICEPower 50ASX2 the bridged version. Basically 100W into 8 ohms and 170 watts into 4 ohms. 1 1 Quote
msb Posted Tuesday at 17:53 Posted Tuesday at 17:53 The MB200 is a good sounding little amp. It also has a mini aux in , so you can plug in a phone or tablet , plug in headphones and play along to YouTube videos. 2 Quote
knirirr Posted Tuesday at 18:16 Posted Tuesday at 18:16 Orange OBC112 with a TC Electronics BAM200. This works very nicely for jazz DB and isn't a hassle to transport. 4 Quote

msb Posted Wednesday at 18:57 Posted Wednesday at 18:57 Several years ago mine had a meltdown after the fan stopped working and I went looking for something to replace it. My conclusion was it was still the best thing in that power range , I managed to get it repaired. I would have bought another if the repair didn’t work. Now there are more amps available in that range today … but not many have that aux in input. Handy thing to have. Today I also have an Elf and a Darkglass m200 in that power range. Quote
jensenmann Posted yesterday at 08:03 Posted yesterday at 08:03 Last week I ran into a dirt cheap Eden 410XLT and used it rightaway at our gig. Happy camper, what a great cab. It´s extremely loud and cuts through very well. 3 Quote
