Jean-Luc Pickguard Posted August 22, 2022 Posted August 22, 2022 These each come with a second pickguard/scratchplate. The Orange one comes with a brilliant white scratchplate and an alternative black scratchplate. The Black one comes with a creamy ivory scratchplate and an alternative tortoiseshell scratchplate. Swapping the scratchplate for one in a different colour doesn't solve the problem that the scratchplate shape is a hideous abomination. Surely including a second one with a less fugly shape would be a better idea? Quote
Doctor J Posted August 22, 2022 Posted August 22, 2022 The scratchplate is the least of the design problems there 😂 4 2 Quote
paul_5 Posted August 22, 2022 Posted August 22, 2022 Looks like a whole lot of neck dive from where I’m sitting, Quote
Cato Posted August 22, 2022 Posted August 22, 2022 I think they look great. Agree about the neck dive though. 1 Quote
Martin E Posted August 22, 2022 Posted August 22, 2022 I don't think it's a bad looking bass per se. The pickguard looks positively restrained compared to some of Fender's efforts which often cover acres of body with unnecessary odd shaped plastic. And I've always liked oversized two a side tuners on a small headstock, but that's just me. The main problem as already said is that it would appear is that it doesn't have any chance of balancing on a lap or strap. If by some magic it does it might even be a nice little bass. 1 Quote
Lozz196 Posted August 22, 2022 Posted August 22, 2022 They sound really nice on the few clips that are available Quote
PaulThePlug Posted August 22, 2022 Posted August 22, 2022 A small round headed swoosh from pickup down to jack is all that is needed... The clue is in the lower bout... Quote
cocco Posted August 22, 2022 Posted August 22, 2022 I really like these. I shouldn't, but I do. Quote
CJPJ Posted August 22, 2022 Posted August 22, 2022 I quite enjoyed this honest and balanced review 1 Quote

Jean-Luc Pickguard Posted August 23, 2022 Author Posted August 23, 2022 The shape of the pickguard though—it’s even worse than a gibson ripper/grabber 1 Quote
jd56hawk Posted August 23, 2022 Posted August 23, 2022 (edited) The O bass art deco pickguard sets it apart from every other LP-shaped bass. Here's an example of poor pickguard design. On the left we have the glaringly bad "Let's put some thought into the top half but cut off the bottom because we can't come up with anything better" Telecaster. On the right we have an example with more thought put into it. Edited August 30, 2022 by jd56hawk Quote
sky Posted August 29, 2022 Posted August 29, 2022 i quite liked this guys videos, orange sent one for him to try, seems like a decent bass 2 Quote
danweb22 Posted August 29, 2022 Posted August 29, 2022 I have one of these, and after a couple of mods the neck dive is sorted. It’s a great sounding/playing bass, will post some pics when I get a chance Quote
danweb22 Posted August 29, 2022 Posted August 29, 2022 (edited) Hipshot Ultralite tuners fitted Hipshot Kickass Bridge fitted Could possibly fit a Dunlop Flush Mount strap lock to the back of the body like Dingwall do and a normal strap lock to the horn to get it nearer the 12th fret to help the balance even more. Pretty good as it is though! Edited August 29, 2022 by danweb22 8 Quote

danweb22 Posted September 1, 2022 Posted September 1, 2022 Neck dive update, what neck dive?? 😀 Dunlop straplock on the horn made a bit of difference plus the lightweight tuners 5 Quote

Great work. Ergonomic Reverse Engineering for the win. Have you kept the original pickup? How are you finding the bass as a whole post-mods? Quote

I haven’t played it much since managing to get a Classic 50s Precision Lacquer so will probably be moving it on soon, still a great bass though Quote
