Bass Idol

In this months Bass Guitar Magazine I noticed an advert for Bass Idol. How interesting, i thought.

However, on looking at the website (www.bassidol.com) I have become a little suspicious.

You have to submit a video of your playing. Fair enough.

However, it also costs £20 just to enter! You are basically paying somone £20 to watch 10 minutes of playing.

10 people will be selected to compete in a live final.

Although I was very interested initially, I don't like the odds, and I think the £20 might just stay in my wallet.

I wonder if its like the (now defunct) local shop's battle of the bands where instead of getting sponsorship bands were charged to enter and tickets for punters were £7. Finalists got to play an unpaid gig that the promoters were making money on.

It smells like a money making scheme. I wonder why Gibson & Roland got involved...
