BassAdder60
Having learnt that a Precision Bass is my preferred instrument and passive too I’m considering on looking at an additional new bass I have the Fender Player series at present all stock apart from an upgraded bridge. It’s a nice bass Are the Performer series worth the extra price and why ?
Lozz196
Without sounding flippant, visit a shop and play one, only your hands will be able to tell you. Pretty much any Precision works for me, but I’ve found my faves (US Standard 2013-16 range) via trial & error. For me I just enjoy playing them more than any others, but they’re all Precisions. So take your own Player along (tell the staff of course) and play a Performer, see where you go from there.

Lozz196
The 2008-12 had a flatter (and wider as a result of this) feeling neck to me, the 13-16 being deeper in the hand. The 13-16s had the Custom Shop 62 pickups, going back to a more vintage sound in comparison to the 08-12s which I found to be more modern sounding.

Sibob
I would head for a MIJ Precision if you want Fender, or if you have a larger budget, a Pino custom shop, or look out for a (rare) used Moollon. Lakland also make some excellent Precision copies. All depends on the spec you’re after. Si

Put in some Lindy Fralins and it sounds more vintage than a custom shop reissue. A new fender will be hit and miss whether Chinese, Mexican or US made. Jap fenders regularly get good comments and my MIJ strat is pretty good.
Jonesy
Is there a straight Precision in the performer range, or are they all PJ's? If you're looking new at about the £1.2k mark then the Nate Mendel falls into that bracket, as does the LB100 and SB1 from G&L.
msb
You might consider a SCPB. They’re a different animal than the later split coil basses. Many prefer them. I have a MIJ school bus yellow one and it has one of the liveliest G strings I’ve ever played. Strung mine with Thomastik flats , it’s a great thump machine. I have one too, also strung with TI flats. And I agree, it's a real thumpy bass. They're a different vibe to a split coil Precision (I have one of those too, of course 😉 )but more versatile than you might expect. That's a good recommendation msb. Frank.
