dmz
My remaining Lakkie Hi Bernmeister - how's the 55-01? Edited April 21, 2009 by dmz
Bernmeister
Hi there dmz, the lakkie's looking & sounding as superb as the day i had it from you. Thank you so much for parting with it. Your 55-94 fretless looked & sounded superb, when you played it for me, its pity i can't play fretless.
ShaunB
Guess I have to add my 2... a 4-94 courtesy of Marcus and a new (yes I bought new!!!) Skyline DD... now I want a US version! ...must get a better camera - do those necks looks curved or what? (although I've had a 44-02D, BG and a 55-01D)
ednaplate
That maple neck looks lovely. I keep hearing on here that the current Skylines aren't as good as they once were which is why Lakland have moved production. You all seem very happy with yours though. chris_b
Hi Shaun, how much use does the DD get if you have the 4-94 as well? What's the difference that makes you want both?

The 4-94 is still a joy to play and has so much more range - I gig with 'em both... the perfect pair (well, until something else comes along) ;-)

You all seem very happy with yours though.
The Cort factory in Korea, where the Skylines were being machined, closed down. So Lakland had no choice but to move. What they had to decide was where to move to. So now it's the Cort factory in Indonesia. My Skyline Decade is Indonesian - no problem with its build quality, especially since it was set up and plekked in Chicago.
Higgie
This has been posted before, but here's mine: The DJ5 belonged to OBBM (the one with the mirror guard in his post is the same bass seen here) and now belongs to PauBass. The DJ4 is still with me

Kiwi
I tried a 5502 in the gallery yesterday. Superb instrument, looks to me like they're another company who have the wood specification spot on in terms of growl. Positives: Versatility Growl warmth build quality Jazz bass sound was great weight - relatively light for what it is Negatives: string spacing a little too wide (for me) neck a little too wide at nut (for me) MM pickup wasn't as grunty as a real MM (but punters probably wouldn't care, to be honest)

small_lump_of_green_putty
can anyone describe the sounds of these basses? what are they most like? I've heard some good things about them but never tried one.

Not helpful I know, but if you search for lakland bass on youtube you'll hear quite a variation. I'm not good at describing sound but, I have an early 5 string with Bartolini pickups and pre amp. I play it flat with a bit of boost to the bass which gets me a fat, punchy, duck dunn type of sound, but the tone scape is very wide. The necks are quite big and the string spacing is wider than some, which I like. Edited May 4, 2009 by chris_b
