LITTLEWING Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 I've just started playing again after a long boring break. My question is I'm working with some guys who tune down to drop D with a C bottom. Which strings, guage, (round or flat) would be best sounding and not go too floppy without having to go too high action? Also, which would stay 'alive' longest as I always have the bottom E (C in this case) dying off in no time? Quote
caruso Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 Some further information as the type of bass, scale would be helpful to recommend a set of strings. Generally the thicker the string the better it will sound with dropped tuning. Quote
Greene-Mann Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 hey littlewing...for a low C i've found a 115 will have similar tension to a 100 gauge tuned to an E, as for the rest of your strings, you'll want the strings you usually would get in a 50-110 pack of Roto's or something like that....GHS do a Boomers pack which is 50-115...thats probably your best bet. Or if you cant get hold of GHS's then a 5 string pack of 35-120 or similarly light should do you alright....however the bass will never be able to be tuned to E standard ha ha... hope this helps Quote
Adrenochrome Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 I'm depping for a band that play in D-tuning with occasional songs in drop-C. I'm using 50-110, roundwound, nickel somethings I got cheap from Evilbay. It's absolutely fine but I wouldn't recommend going thinner than 110 for the 'C'. jon Quote
Mr. Foxen Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 I'd message newtone strings with a bunch of info like scale length of your bass and what sort of guage and material (nickel or steel) you like in standard, and they can figure you a set with same sort of tension. And get them taper woud cause its awesome. Quote
