Maybe I should have placed some punctuation in there…. “You’re quite right and I don’t think they’re supposed to be - as per the album cover.” Quote

markbunney Posted May 2, 2023 Posted May 2, 2023 Saw Duran Duran tonight and John was using the Rio Dream bass. It sounded great, and now I wish i had ordered one. looks like he swapped the pick guard to a white one. 5 Quote
Rayman Posted May 3, 2023 Posted May 3, 2023 Dingwall really is the buzzword at the moment isn’t it? Sheldon seems like a top fella, and the basses seem to be really highly regarded? My mate swears by his Combustion…. it replaced his beloved stealth Bongo as his favourite. Me….. I’d rather have an SB1000, but I’d certainly like to have a go on one of these to see what all the hype is about? 1 Quote

CJPJ Posted May 3, 2023 Posted May 3, 2023 I suspect he could have asked for any colour he wanted 2 Quote

Now I’m almost leaning white 🤔 I’m seeing them in September which feels soooo far away… jury’s out on whether the show or the bass will arrive first Edited May 5, 2023 by krd 1 Quote

lidl e Posted May 5, 2023 Posted May 5, 2023 I got invited to aee them on sunday here but i turned it down. Should i be going? 1 Quote
markbunney Posted May 5, 2023 Posted May 5, 2023 I would go if you get the chance. they played lots of the hits, so even if you are only a casual fan it’s worth it. production and stage show was great and failing that, there were at least 3 nice Dingwalls to see & hear Quote
BigRedX Posted May 5, 2023 Posted May 5, 2023 I saw them in early 1980 when they were still young and fabulous... 1 Quote
simisker Posted November 23, 2023 Posted November 23, 2023 Remember these? Now not expected until the New Year [2024] I have to admit, I thought these would have been ready - or nearly ready - to ship soon after deposit time, just after the NAMM show in April. These aren't bespoke, after all. Was that naive of me? 🤷♂️ 1 Quote

I understand smaller builders, effectively testing the water and seeing what interest there is before launching a production run based on pre-orders, but Dingwall knew these would sell like hot cakes, so why not just wait until the first run is ready to go before announcing? 3 Quote

I am assuming some combustions are better than others. Having had one, I wouldn't actually buy another dingwall unplayed. Never had a more dissapointing bass. I would be prepared to believe that the canadian ones were better, but once bitten and all.. 2 Quote
Muzz Posted November 23, 2023 Posted November 23, 2023 I've played a couple of Combustions and liked them, but my Canadian ABZ is night and day better... 1 Quote
Kev Posted November 23, 2023 Posted November 23, 2023 I think when the Combustion range was around the £1k mark at the start, that was fair. At the price they are now...nah, that's a lot of money for a mass produced bass built in the same factory in the far east as a lot of others. But, on that logic, that's rules out a hell of a lot of the market at the moment. Prices have just gone insane. It doesn't seem long ago people used to laugh at the idea of Warwick basses being £3k new, and now £3k only just buys you a Stingray 🙃 2 Quote
Harlequin74 Posted January 15, 2024 Posted January 15, 2024 I think Bass Direct have sold their quota of 10 red ‘Rio’ basses. anybody on here a lucky owner, and what do you think of it? thinking of buying in black….. thanks 1 Quote
Machines Posted January 16, 2024 Posted January 16, 2024 They were sold before stock landed in the UK. They still haven't arrived. 1 Quote
Guest Posted January 17, 2024 Posted January 17, 2024 Coincidently I was watching some live clips of a few songs from Rio last night. In couple of recent ones, JT was playing his Dingwall. Unsurprisingly, it made a very Dingwally sound, which is to say, not really like his sound on that album. Quote
martthebass Posted January 17, 2024 Posted January 17, 2024 Can't help but think this is a 'cashing in' exercise, to me Rio will always be an Aria SB1000.... 6 Quote
simisker Posted January 17, 2024 Posted January 17, 2024 (edited) I've got a deposit on one of BD's allocation of Rio Dream editions. Have to admit, the GAS has subsided a fair bit since the excitement of ordering. But, y'know, let's see how I feel when it turns up Edited January 17, 2024 by simisker 2 Quote
Burns-bass Posted January 17, 2024 Posted January 17, 2024 Reckon it looks cool. I would have wanted a case though for that price… 1 Quote
