Iheartreverb
Hi all, I’m back to playing bass after years away of playing guitar and not even owning a bass (sorry). I fired some slinkies on to keep me going but I’m not happy with them. I adore flats (used everything from Chromes to LaBella) but they simply aren’t going to be versatile enough for what I’m doing now. My last bass had Dean Markley Helix on, which I picked up cheap and I enjoyed 1) the smooth feel 2) Not as much top end Not an amazing string but had some benefits I enjoyed. This has led me to looking at pressurewound, either Roto or GHS- any opinion on those? Basically I’m just looking for a worn in sounding round (I think) or simply one that’s darker but ideally, a smoother feel too. Some DR have come up on this end of the search. Appreciate any suggestions, cheers
Paolo85
I am sure you have tried them but I'll mention them just in case: Dunlop flats and TI flats are somewhat rounds-sounding, and none of the tension and stiffness of the other flats Edited September 30, 2022 by Paolo85
Lozz196
Another train of thought could be Elixirs - coated roundwounds. Due to the coating they don`t have that brittle out of the pack top-end, but they do stay remarkably consistent for a long time - I get around 8 months to a year on my home practice bass. The nickel rounds are even warmer sounding, plus feel nicer to play.
Pow_22
Elites Groundwound? Big elites fan here, have their flats on most basses but i had a set of grounds on a Jack Casady bass and it was glorious
gjones
I do like DR Hi Beams. I used to fit them to all my basses but was seduced by Elixirs for a while. Recently fitted a set to my Jazz and they sound really great.
