tayste_2000 Posted October 13, 2022 Posted October 13, 2022 So with a long history of measuring thrice and cutting 27 times, I’m imploring you kind fellows for some advice. I have a Mexican made fender pawn shop mustang, I would like to put some lollipop tuners on it…. You know, because they sound better. I assume only hipshot are making these and all mustangs sport the same tuners and everything available is a drop in replacement? As such this would be the right model? https://hipshotproducts.com/collections/bass-tuning/products/hb10-bass-tuning-machine?variant=43376337224 Quote
neepheid Posted October 13, 2022 Posted October 13, 2022 Assume nothing - put up a pic of the back of the headstock so we can better advise. 1 Quote

Jean-Luc Pickguard Posted October 17, 2022 Posted October 17, 2022 (edited) The pawn shop mustang uses the same tuners as the CIJ mustangs, Gotoh GB1. The Hipshot replacement for these are the HB10 model https://hipshotproducts.com/collections/bass-tuning/products/hb10-bass-tuning-machine which can be ordered with lollipop paddles. A hipshot HB7 lollipop set as fitted to vintera and JMJ mustangs won't fit as they require an 18mm hole where the GB1/HB10 use a 15mm hole. Edited October 17, 2022 by Jean-Luc Pickguard 1 Quote

This is super helpful as I thought about sourcing the fender ones. attached are pictures of the headstock. I don’t have anything to measure with me at the moment. Also wondering if it would be the same tuners for the current classic vibe fsr squier mustangs? Quote
Jean-Luc Pickguard Posted October 18, 2022 Posted October 18, 2022 These look to be the Gotoh GB1 set — the same as on my CIJ mustang. The Squiers use different tuners to these, which I don’t think have an equivalent Hipshot version. The hipshot HB7 set would probably fit a Squier CV if you don’t mind making new screwholes. Quote
fretmeister Posted October 19, 2022 Posted October 19, 2022 Might as well go with Ultralights while you are at it. Makes far more of a difference than you think it would. Quote

Jean-Luc Pickguard Posted October 19, 2022 Posted October 19, 2022 In my experience mustangs are light and well balanced, so there are no real issues for ultralites to fix Quote

Would the Gotoh FB30LP be a drop in replacement for these instead of looking at Hipshot? I just got a JMJ mustang and now I MUST have Lollipops on the pawnshop 😅 Quote
Jean-Luc Pickguard Posted February 4, 2023 Posted February 4, 2023 The string posts on Gotoh FB30LP has a larger diameter than the GB1 set, so they won't fit. I suspect that the base plate will be too big also. Hipshot's GB1 equivalent set, the hb10 can be supplied with lollipop keys: https://hipshotproducts.com/collections/bass-tuning/products/hb10-bass-tuning-machine?variant=43376337224 Quote
