Jimothey
Hi I’m trying to set up my latest build and I’ve got a fret buzz on the A and D strings only on the 3rd fret I’ve tweeted the truss rod as the neck had a bit too much of a back bow and I’ve raised the action on the two strings but it’s still buzzing!! I’ve checked with my rocker and the fret doesn’t look to be high/low? Do you think it’s a nut issue? If so what would be the best way to test it? Thanks in advance…….👍🏻
PaulThePlug
Maybe a pre cut nut for say a 12" radius on a 9" radius fret board? Fret the string at the third... there should be a 'light tap' gap between string and first fret. If not try a pit of paper in the nut slot... if this fixes the issue and you dont want to replace the nut then the Super Glue and Baking Soda mix works. did this on my J Bitsa - nothing to loose... paul_5
sounds like it could be a slightly proud 4th fret - fret a note at the third fret and see how much of a gap there is at the 4th fret, I"ll bet it's not enough. 1

Jimothey
Thanks for the replies…..👍🏻 I rechecked with my more expensive fret rocker (not my cheap wish one I used originally!!) and the 3rd fret is lower than the 2nd and 4th so looks like a fret level job is needed
