Beedster Posted October 28, 2022 Posted October 28, 2022 Probably the specifics might be down to our good friend in Petulma @agedhorse, but is there any reason I shouldn't use a large combo on its side? The combo in question is a Mesa Carbine, it would only be used at low volumes when on its side, and at present main concern is that on its side one of the fan vents would be blocked, although I'm worried there may be unknown unknowns? Interestingly the unit should have fitted upright into a nice little alcove in my new studio, but guess what......? Thanks Chris 1 Quote
PaulThePlug Posted October 28, 2022 Posted October 28, 2022 corner riser blocks... get the vent of the floor by a couple of inches? 1 Quote

PaulThePlug Posted October 28, 2022 Posted October 28, 2022 (edited) couple of strips of 2x2... Although might boom like a MF in an alcove up against the wall... check regular for cracks! Edited October 28, 2022 by PaulThePlug 1 Quote
wrinkleygit Posted October 28, 2022 Posted October 28, 2022 In my guitar playing days, I often used Fender valve combo’s on their side to help with cooling, as long as you can elevate it a little to keep the vent clear it will be quite happy. 1 Quote

It’s in the small room so will only be low volume, will move it into the big room (not yet built) for anything more. And yes, this thing will happily take the wall off a building if one is not careful, not helped by a rather sensitive master volume curve 👍 Quote

MichaelDean Posted October 28, 2022 Posted October 28, 2022 When I had my Mark Bass CMD102P, I'd quite often put it on its side if it was a smaller stage or I wanted a seat at practice! That was always fine. I didn't really notice any difference in the tone either. 2 Quote
agedhorse Posted October 28, 2022 Posted October 28, 2022 Since the Carbines are fan cooled, the orientation is not important PROVIDED the vents are not blocked. Quote
