Musicman20
So....I had a new neck plate sent out, and I need to fit it when I put some new strings on. Its six bolt, and basically Im scared! How do I do this with no damage to my bass? Is it something a shop/tech should do? I thinking put it facedown on a soft surface, get the correct screwdriver, unscrew all 6 evenly, take plate off, line up new plate, put in screws half way each, then put all in properly. Then tighten a little. Then new strings. Will this affect anything?! Thanks

As long as you make sure the neck is lined up in the pocket before you start putting the screws back in, you shouldn't have any problems. Don't over tighten the screws either, just put them in till their firm.
xilddx
Sounds fine to me too. There's nothing to worry about, you won't damage anything unless you're a complete klutz. Like ~tl says, do not overtighten them. Apparently a good thing to do is to tighten them fairly tight, restring and tune to pitch, then give the bolts an extra tightening, this supposedly gives a better, tighter join. By "overtightening" we mean having to strain to tighten them any more. Edited April 21, 2009 by silddx
