Grimalkin Posted November 3, 2022 Posted November 3, 2022 As crisp as you like. I've always liked Jaco's right hand attack consistency, very even consistent flow. 2 Quote
nilorius Posted November 3, 2022 Posted November 3, 2022 Well. it's a very good file, if you want to learn the bass part of this song. I knew this song 5 years ago, now i don't remember some parts. Sounds great. Quote
StickyDBRmf Posted November 3, 2022 Posted November 3, 2022 When this came out we didn't have a slow-down mode. No 16 2/3 rpm on my turntable. And it would have been an octave lower to boot. Just listened to this earlier. coolcoolcool 2 Quote
Grimalkin Posted November 3, 2022 Posted November 3, 2022 Naughty naughty. Everyone knows that you only need enough technique to play the bass line for Brown Eyed Girl. Gratuitous hedonism. Quote
paul_5 Posted November 3, 2022 Posted November 3, 2022 (edited) Incredible playing as always, what an amazing talent. 😵💫 Edited November 3, 2022 by paul_5 2 Quote
Grimalkin Posted November 3, 2022 Posted November 3, 2022 Jaco on intonation/fret markers/difference with double bass scale: 10.00 - 10.35. Alternating and raking: 26.32 - 27.42: 2 Quote
Lozz196 Posted November 3, 2022 Posted November 3, 2022 Another isolated track where the actual bass sound is much more scratchy & gainy than would be expected. Seems all these pros that we love & revere knew a bit about less than clean bass sounds. 2 Quote

Grimalkin Posted November 3, 2022 Posted November 3, 2022 This was a series of gigs Birelli Lagrene did with his band titled "Remembering Jaco". Birelli is predominantly a guitarist, who played with Jaco back in the day. I love how there are all the Jaco trademarks there but how Birelli expands on them, from the harmonics @ 0.33 and the false fretting @ 1.45 onwards, it's the closest thing I've heard to Jaco in years: Quote
Owen Posted November 3, 2022 Posted November 3, 2022 Very lovely indeed. But for completeness "bass only" in this context = bass and keys. So not only is it funky goodness, but lovely ensemble playing. Above all, for me, it is Jaco's note placement which keeps me coming back. Quote
