Bart Funk Bass Posted November 10, 2022 Share Posted November 10, 2022 Which tone do you prefer more? I bought Sadowsky Blue Label Flatwound Strings 45-65-85-105 about 2 years ago. It was my first set of the flats, so I decided to get 45-105 gauge because it’s my favorite. However, I didn’t know that flats have higher tension than rounds. I liked their sound but used them very rarely due to the tension. So, around 6 months ago I bought Thomastik Jazz Flats 344 43-56-70-100. Now, I’m in heaven! They are so easy and inspiring to play. But apart from the “touch”, I put together how they sound side by side. Although, the Sadowsky flats are older, they were actually used less than Thomastiks in 6 months. I play Ernie Ball Music Man StingRay ash+maple from 2000. Flat EQ. Straight into Focusrite interface. Same groove. P.S. Wonky2 Posted November 21, 2022 Share Posted November 21, 2022 If your a flats guy, I can’t recommend Ernie ball cobalt flats enough. perfectly balanced, great tension and just great to the touch. my last set, on a mm, 8 years. new set on my 76 jazz, sound fantastic.
