ricksterphil
I've seen a few ads on FB for Rickenbacker's built by HW. Anyone know who 'HW' is?
NikNik
He's known on here and on Facebook Ricky group. I would have had a punt on that if it had been a red or natural one.

police squad
HW builds lovely replicas. If I wanted an R bass, I would buy HW
wateroftyne
I wonder if he was responsible for this one I played a while ago...?

Skybone
Have a one off HW 4003, superb bass.
martthebass
Some consider them superior to a 'proper' Rick. I'd love to try one.

prowla
He does custom builds to order, typically using real Ric parts. I've not seen a bad word said about ones he's made. Not cheap, though.
MichaelDean
Not like real Ricks are cheap. Does anyone know a ballpark figure for an HW 4003? Obviously could vary with spec. Edited November 18, 2022 by MichaelDean
prowla
I don’t know, but I’m thinking similar to a used real one.
Maude
I bought my 4005 second hand but it cost the seller £1300 to be built. He had pickups custom made by House of Tone separately so I assume that price was without pickups. The bass is mapleglo so no fancy paint finishes would've kept costs down, but it does have checker binding and crushed pearl fretmarkers. This was a few years back and the bass was a year old when I got it so prices have probably increased since. The NBD thread is here for those interested.

That's not as much as I would have thought given the reputation they seem to have!
Maude
Just now, MichaelDean said: That's not as much as I would have thought given the reputation they seem to have! No, it's very good value. I'd guess with fireglo, or similar finish, and decent pickups you'd be looking closer to £2k now. But Rickenbackers, new and used, have increased in price dramatically over the last five years, as have good fakers so who knows what Harry charges now. His dark fireglo finish is absolutely gorgeous though, that I do know.
