miles'tone Posted November 23, 2022 Posted November 23, 2022 Sad to hear this. He did spend his bonus time well fair play to him. We could all learn from that. Everyday we get is a bonus... 3 Quote
Beedster Posted November 23, 2022 Posted November 23, 2022 His greatest performance, the electric mouse on rails...... 6 Quote
dutchwife Posted November 23, 2022 Posted November 23, 2022 Wilks was a frequent flyer over this way and I think we all considered him semi-immortal; in a musical sense we weren't wrong. Sure going to miss him a lot. Hope that Norman's doing alright. 1 Quote
thebrig Posted November 23, 2022 Posted November 23, 2022 RIP Wilko. I saw Dr Feelgood many times in the 70's, I just loved the high energy of Wilko and Lee. I played in a Dr Feelgood tribute for a while until 2019. By his own admission, he was not the greatest guitarist around, but his style was truly unique. 1 Quote

Yes, I'll concede that Mick Green came first, and I love the Pirates as well. 1 Quote
Steve Browning Posted November 23, 2022 Author Posted November 23, 2022 There';s a great similarity but Wilko took it a step further. Either way, it was an excuse to post a great old Johnny Kidd number. 1 Quote

A true Canvey icon. I can well imagine Greg, it hit me hard too. My band did a short UK tour with Wilko when the ' Oil City Confidential' film was released, great memories. petecarlton Posted November 23, 2022 Posted November 23, 2022 Very sad, one of music's real characters. I saw him with Solid Senders in 1978 - you couldn't take your eyes off him. He'll be much missed. Quote
Graham56 Posted November 23, 2022 Posted November 23, 2022 Sad, but he made the most of what time he had. The Southend live clip is one of my favourite YT clips... Southend live 1 1 Quote
thebrig Posted November 23, 2022 Posted November 23, 2022 (edited) Here's my old band "Stupidity" playing She Does it Right, we only covered the Wilko era, and we only played about a dozen gigs, we weren't the greatest band around, but playing those Wilko inspired songs was so much fun for us. It was recorded on a mobile phone so the audio isn't that great. We all miss him so much! She Does It Right - Stupidity.mov Edited November 23, 2022 by thebrig 4 Quote
Lozz196 Posted November 23, 2022 Posted November 23, 2022 Great shame, was lucky enough to catch him & Norm on the bill as support for The Stranglers a few years back. Bags of energy and supremely good musicianship. Quote
Shaggy Posted November 23, 2022 Posted November 23, 2022 Aw, one of my favourite guitarists in my favourite bands, and such a larger than life character. Circa 1976 I was briefly known as “Wliko” at school as I had the same haircut as him...... Quote
jezzaboy Posted November 23, 2022 Posted November 23, 2022 In their day, they were an brilliant band. Here is my personal favourite of theirs. RIP Wilko. 1 Quote
KevB Posted November 23, 2022 Posted November 23, 2022 (edited) Only saw him once, mid 80's in a tiny dive of a club with Norman on bass (though I did see DF without Wilko). Not particularly my first choice of music but it was slick and professional and he had charisma. A mate of mine loaned Julian Temple a load of rare DF memoribilia to use for the 'Oil City Confidential' documentary. RIP 'Mr Johnson'. Edited November 23, 2022 by KevB Quote

Not even a P-bass, so 'Yes, it can be done..!'. Well recorded and filmed, especially for the times. Good stuff. Quote

Dan Dare Posted November 23, 2022 Posted November 23, 2022 A sad day. I saw the news on my FB feed this morning (I was following him). A great character and distinctive and original musician. His autobiography is well worth a read. I'm so glad he had those extra years and he certainly made full use of them. RIP Wilko. Quote
Maude Posted November 23, 2022 Posted November 23, 2022 Genuinely shocked to read this news. Very sad news indeed. But as others have said, he was given some extra time and he made full use of it. It's still a shock nonetheless. 🥺 Quote
SuperSeagull Posted November 23, 2022 Posted November 23, 2022 Stupidity, one of the great live albums. Last saw him supporting Quo on their reunion tour in 2014. Unique, another one of the greats lost. Quote

Beedster Posted November 23, 2022 Posted November 23, 2022 BBC News today described how Wilko, who'd played with the Feelgoods since 1972, enjoyed a four-decade career. I not normally angered by poor maths but today i was. Five decades of honest, take it or leave it, straight ahead gigging. Well done Wilko, hope you and Lee are enjoying a glass or two and a bit of reminiscing this evening 🍻 1 Quote
