Owen
A friend is selling a guitar with a truss rod which "turns in place and doesn't do anything". I fancy it, but that info might as well be written in Greek before Google Translate existed as far as I am concerned. Obviously I am not expecting anyone to tell me exactly what is wrong - but what might I be looking at? Someone who did some work on it did say the truss rod was fragile before it stopped functioning. I am aware that this is like asking what shade of black my t shirt is when the light is off. I am also aware that I will have come to my senses by tomorrow morning. But, as we all know, it is fun to think about these things.
Downunderwonder
Sounds like the nut is probably stripped of thread or the head boogered. Unlikely the whole rod is turning in place. Maybe the threads of the rod are still ok and a new nut could fix it.
Aidan63
What guitar is it ?; have you researched the type of truss rod fitted to it ?

This is the kind of thing I was thinking of but could not bring into focus in my head. Ta. 6 minutes ago, Aidan63 said: What guitar is it ?; have you researched the type of truss rod fitted to it ? It is an Overwater guitar built in 1980. I have no idea what is in there. I will have a look at it on Monday.
Aidan63
Worth contacting Chris May for advice I would have thought. Good luck with it Edited November 25, 2022 by Aidan63 spelling
BassBunny
"It is an Overwater guitar built in 1980." My instant reaction is, do not pass go, do not collect £200, contact Chris May @ Overwater.

Owen
1. Sanity prevailed the following morning. 2. Someone else bought it anyway. But thanks for humouring me 1
