Brooklyn is one of the five boroughs of New York City. It's like saying you're based in London because you're based in Hackney.

I've only been to NYC twice a tourist, but the impression I get is that for people who don't live there NYC = Manhattan, and the other boroughs especially those that require crossing water to get to don't really count.

I'll stand by my analogy. Croydon is a borough of London and it's over the river from the part people who don't live there associate as the main bit of the city.

London has the additional confusion of London and Greater London too.

...and don't forget The City of London.

If anybody asks you how big is the City of London its about a mile and a half by three quarters of a mile.

Hello everyone!

Just read through this thread & i would mention RMI also, although Mark Ramsay is not UK based anymore. He has his own designs but is not afraid to experiment if a customer requests it.

I used to own an RMI Quantum Dominic Di Piazza Signature 6-string bass &, while i had it, the BTB846SC, AGBV205A, Swamp Ash Sire P7 5-string & Fame Baphomet were mostly gathering dust. I had to consciously force myself to play them every few days. I eventually had to sell everything off due to... uh... life... but i really recomment RMI...

The best way to contact Mark Ramsay is through his Instagram https://instagram.com/mark.w.ramsay?igshid=MmU2YjMzNjRlOQ==

He has been doing more teaching & research these days, but he still builds basses if asked politely ;0))

Hi all, just bumping this one as I've been racking my brain trying to remember a luthier I read about in bass guitar mag.....about 12-15 years or so ago.... I think.

He had two or three standard models, one man band, the basses we're all naturally finished, but had some really exceptional carving/ body shaping.... I seem to recall the upper horn on. Custom job was almost a spiral or something.... It was a 1 or 2 page focus on the builder if I recall and I think the models were titles with a letter and number.... I think....

Pretty much naff all to go on, but thought I'd see if anyone also remembered the edition I read... Google and Google images has proven futile :/

Folks who do, or did a scroll upper horn that I can recall include, Carl Thompson (the original), Hilton, Huff (who went down in flames owing a lot of people money/basses), Eve (don't think they're going anymore), May (still going, but the article probably predates him), and Gnome I think was another one?

If the builder was UK based I think it might've been Eve?

There's probably loads more out there but brain fade prevents full recall... 😎

Ah dude, I just found what I think is the old eve website.

You've nailed it - that was the builder!!!! Thank you!!! Pretty surprised based on such a spurious initial post.

Gonna trawl through the rest of your list as well. Not actively in the market, but started to look again at a builder potentially.

What a talent you are! ✌️🙏

If only this kind of talent could be billed for! 😁

Eve is no longer going, but Doug (Eve's main man) is a member of Bass Upfront on Facebook, and was saying recently that he's considering opening up, but only for custom commissions.

I played some Eve basses back at the Bass Guitar Show in 2014. Lovely things. Incredibly light too.

I keep thinking about buying a cheapie Indonesian/Korean Hamer Chapparel 12-String bass, amputating the neck, getting a UK luthier to clone my Lull JAXT4 body and bolting it all together.

Food for thought here.
