OldGit Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 Jools reminded me so this just a shout out for Bedders in Madness. Brilliant and seldom mentioned in lists of great bass players. Love the tone, melodic nature of his playing and great grin. Quote
Thunderthumbs Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 Always been a huge fan of Bedders. He's one of those bass players whose emphasis seems to be on melody no matter what the song. Yet even if it's a great line (e.g. House Of Fun), it rides along with the song rather than riding over it. Very, very underrated. Quote
sgt-pluck Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 Couldn't agree more - I'm amazed his name doesn't get mentioned more often. Pluck Quote
steve-soar Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 A total bass player, tone, notes, pocket, attitude, looks cool and smiles. My Girl is brilliant. Quote
Kiwi Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 I agree, I recently heard the original on some digital channel and the bass lines just leapt out for their off-beat quirkyness. How fitting is that? Its not the sort of bassline I'd be inclined to play myself but they were great to listen to. Quote
Raggy Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 We play some Madness, always a joy to play, superb tone to boot. Quote
Rich Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 Bedders and Horace Panter were the sounds of my youth! and what cracking sounds they were too. Agreed, vastly underrated. Tastes change, and likes/dislikes come and go, but I never tire of listening to ska Quote
