What bass would You choose for free, between these 2 brands - good Ibanez that You like or good Fender that You also like? Only the models that are currently in production !!!

Fender all the way for me - US Professional II Precision.

If Custom Shop or Masterbuilt models fell into this I’d be very happy.

Hmm, without any specific requirements to guide my hand, probably a Fender, if only for the resale value and most likely a Performer Mustang. However, I am tempted by the headless, short scale, Ibanez offering (swap out those pickups for Nordy Big Singles), but the big F still wins the day if only one is allowed, for the reason stated.

Depends on the exact models, but generally

Ibanez =lightweight, thin neck, modern sound

Fender = varying weight, chunkier necks, classic sound.

I'd expect both to be of pretty much equal decent quality at the eqivalant price points, so I suppose it comes down to whether you want that vintage or  modern feel and sound.

If offered for free, definitely a Fender Custom Shop which I would then try to sell. I would then use the funds from the sale to pay for some floor insulation and a new oil tank.

Not a huge Fender fan TBH but I haven't seen a new Ibanez that I liked in ages.

I am drawn to the Dimension 5 currently,  if it's free I'll take it,  otherwise I'm sure I'll get over it.

Nope, i didn' meant Fender custom shop.

I own both and I like them for different reasons, so it's a tricky one.

I've had my eye on a five-string Precision for a while. I particularly like this one.

Actually that's a good call - a USA Pro II Precision V would be a cool free gift. Olympic white and rosewood for me, though.

Ibanez, if I want something which reflects that life continued after 1965, purely because they keep evolving and the Japanese stuff is always superbly built. Whatever the top 4 string SR is at the moment will do very nicely. If I want something Fendery, I'd build it myself with Warmoth bits.

Ok then. Probably the Ultra Jazz then. Probably five strings. Probably sunburst. Probably would still get sold.

Whichever is most expensive. I already own a couple of Fenders that I'm very happy with, so would be looking to sell it on for as much as I could get for it 😉

It is along the lines of Harley vs Suzuki motorbikes, each good in their own way but quite different - 'best' depends what you are after.

If you want the Fender style I'd consider the competition more between options like Fender vs G&L & Lakland &  Sandberg. If modern style then Basses like Ibanez vs Dingwall & Strandberg & MTD.

If its for free I would take a Fender PB - mainly because it would be the right fit sonically and aesthetically for the things I like.

Nothing wrong with Ibanez, in playability terms their design evolutions over trad Fender/Gibson offerings are great for many people, but the neck profiles on the ones I've played have been too skinny for my taste.

I prefer the look of more traditional basses, so it'll be a Fender for me please.

Either the LPB Tony Franklin fretless or a pro 2 precision in dark night would be lovely 😊

So You would want Ibanez GWB1005 ? It costs a lot and is very rare.

Can't see anything Ibanez I fancy so that just leaves Fender.

The 51 Paisley slab body would do but it's custom shop and some moron thought covering up the wallpaper with ashtrays and a scratchplate was a good idea 🙁

Guess I'm going for the AV II 54 in vintage blonde.

I’ve played Fenders for over 40 years, and they remain my favourite electric basses.

Ibanez stuff rarely appeals to me for some reason - probably due to their aesthetics

as I’m sure they make fine instruments. Quite like the retro Talman electrics, but

can’t see me deviating from Fender.

However! I really love my little Ibanez short scale acoustic electric. It’s the PNB14E

model, and is a superb little bass, especially for the price. I tend to use it for most

of my acoustic duo stuff now, which puts my big old Washburn AB20 out to grass

for the foreseeable I think.
