So today I was asked to join a punk covers band on the skinny stringed instrument, lead guitar no less.

I of course said yes, I’ve known the guys in the band for years, they only do something like 10 or 12 gigs a year and all local so nice & easy.

Just gotta learn how to play lead guitar I suppose….

Excellent. You can now throw all of those guitarist tantrums you had to endure as a bass player.

Don't forget to remind them how irreplaceable you are.

Agree, don’t they know it’s all about me?

it's a punk band, so what are you going to learn toorrow?

You'll have to find someone who can chuck another 2 strings onto a precision for you 😂

Great news and good luck with it!!

Ah, but the Telecaster must be the Precision of the skinny string world.

Nah he needs a Les Paul, the only choice is... white=Steve Jones... black=Mick Jones

Well chaps, seeing as I may be more than a bit of a black/black/maple Fender guy I’ve bought myself a Fender Tele Deluxe (twin humbuckers) in the afore mentioned colour scheme for this gig. Whilst I slightly prefer the sound of my Epi SG I’m well aware that I play Fender guitars better so makes sense, plus fits my preferred colouring too.

This is deliciously interesting. What songs are in the set?

Some pretty good ones, and some unexpected

That's an outstanding setlist.

That band looks like it's going to be a whole lot of fun.

Congratulations.

Better get a Marshall full stack for rehearsal 😁

Great set list. I've said it before and I don't mind saying it again, Another Girl Another Planet is the finest pop song ever recorded IMO, perfection from start to finish.

Congrats and enjoy the skinny strings 😎👍

Ooo, some good stuff on there... Stand and deliver?

Stand and Deliver is one we used to play and always went down really well. These are the most pleasing songs to do, IMHO, the ones that hardly any other band plays but everyone knows. Also Lust For Life and Silly Thing from that era.

Root - 5th - octave.

i.e power chord!

Congratulations. You now know how to play bluff every punk song ever written.

You're welcome. 😉

Fixed that :) Even works in my new (to me) prog jazz rock band (as a temporary fix in tricky situations until I really get to grips with it).  @Lozz196your set list looks a blast to play, you will be 'tearing the roof down' at gigs 🎸

I'm envious. That's a great set list! We do Teenage Kicks and Another Girl but I'd love to add some more of those. Our male singist has suggested Turning Japanese though, so here's hoping!

I'd be no good at choosing a set. I tried that kind of thing once and it didn't go well.

OTOH, the only Pistols song I've ever played live is New York. Which was an awesome choice IMHO. I should claim it as my idea...
