To the OP why do you want Fender to make a 6-string bass?

As you can see from the AAF abomination (which looks as though it was made by someone who once saw a photo of a Carl Thompson bass) it's not exactly their strong point. Plus it's not exactly their core market of players who want P and J basses in a decent range of colours and occasionally with matching headstocks. Even their other 4-string models don't sell well enough for them to stay in production.

Plus they struggle to make decent 5-string basses (IMO the standard Fender construction and production doesn't lend itself to consistently good 5-string basses) so how can you expect them to fare any better with a 6-string.

6-string players are happy enough to use something that doesn't say "Fender" on the headstock.

Wasn't that designed by Tye Zamora and not by Fender?

If so, then all Fender did was build it so I don't think their design team can be blamed!

They still made the wretched thing!

This has reminded me of not only AAF but also how much I hated that bass player's idiot gurning.

If it's the basic shape you're after, there are other sources than Fender...

I have one of these (fretless...); they're very good. :friends:

Well, that is nice, but the thread was about "will FENDER do it" and i , myself are not crawing for 6 string. I just want to know other opinions.

Fender Boss to Fender Design Dept: "Let's have us a six string bass!"

FDD: "That's gonna look like a cartoon next to the rest of our stuff".

FB: "Do your best work".

FDD: "Okay, you da Boss".

"Just make sure it can't be mistaken for any of our other products."

I think yes they did, at some time they invented different tort. :)

Innovative 💡

I worked for a company for a short while called Etavoni. I asked the MD what the name means, thinking it was maybe Italian or something. He told me it was innovate backwards. I always thought innovate backwards and misspelled suited them.
