I really like those alparts necks - you really feel like there is something super solid there! I think better to be sanding that .3mm and getting a super tight fit than missing it and not getting full contact!

Totally. I’d rather it slightly too big than too small. I can make sure it’s a nice snug fit. 👍

Making at start on this as we are in warmer climates.

The neck was slightly bigger the pocket so needed a little sand. As my mum would say, “it’s snug as a bug in a rug”. 👍

I got some sanding sealer on the neck today as well.

Yea I’ve seen that, they don’t do a bass in it. They probably should! It looks great with a bigsby.

This is going to be gold paisley relic so quite a bit different. If I wanted to buy an official fender gold paisley, I’d be looking at custom shop prices.

For what it's worth, I'm leaning more towards the 'warmer' pearl, but the silver looks more 'defined'

Maybe you could go halfway and add a smidge of amber into the clear coat as a sort of ageing/warming process

On a more positive note, some paisley paper and some nitro from Rothko and Frost arrived today. Such good quality!!

Wonderful stuff.

I did a paisley vinyl wrap a few years back, thought it was OK but once I'd saw the R&F papers the wrap was peeled off and the bass got sprayed blue; an attempt to distance myself from such foolish notions 😄

I’d be interested to see how this is progressing.

Has a decision been made on the pickup?

So far it’s not gone any further, adulting has got in the way!

Pickup wise, not sure. Maybe a Lindy fralin, or bareknuckle, as I’ve installed on of theirs into another bass and liked it. I’m not sure though.

I've 6 51/Telebasses here in the living room, another upstairs.

When it comes to pickups for this style of bass it's pretty much choose a brand then nail your colours to it's mast 😄

My pine slab body has had at least 6 different single coils over the last few year, from a 6.7K no-name alnico (£8 Chinese eBay seller) to a 29.9k giant. Single coils, split coils even a quad coil.

Magnets ranging from Alnico 2, 5, Neodymium and an alnico/neodymium mix.

Can't really say I've noticed much change between any of them 😐

So this has taken a back seat. Partly being winter and couldn’t spray in winter so trying to get to some spraying this summer.

I wear my bass high ish, so the slab body wouldn’t be great for me so I’ve carved a tummy cut into it. Very much a hybrid thing but has elements I like/need with the look I’m going for.

Still some final shaping and details to sand but it’s pretty much there. 🙌

I worked from a photo, but I think it’s pretty much a fender looking tummy cut.
