msb Posted January 25, 2023 Posted January 25, 2023 Watch the video and decide. It sounded like a guitar to me. Quote

Ralf1e Posted January 25, 2023 Posted January 25, 2023 I like the sound of it and with my background in metalwork and furniture manufacturing I spent alot of the time watching thinking about how he could have made it lighter I didn't come up with an obvious solution until just now while writing this. Honeycomb the core. It worked for racing cars so why not? Or tig weld the entire thing as a semi hollow. Lovely guitar anyway and a worthwhile project. I like it. Bit cold for this weather though. Mykesbass Posted January 25, 2023 Posted January 25, 2023 Great video, really well edited. And yes, @niloriusit does indeed sound like a very nice guitar! 3 Quote
Skybone Posted January 25, 2023 Posted January 25, 2023 It does beg THE question... Is it good for metal? 3 3 Quote

Brrr The semi hollow would also remove another (to me) problem in that the body is too thin. Quote
PaulThePlug Posted January 25, 2023 Author Posted January 25, 2023 I was listening to music on the headphonrs, and just watched without sound... Back in my apprenticeship days one of the bosses gathered us round and showed us sand casting a cylinder for an old british motorcycle. Great use for Ally Cans. I like seeing Craftsman at work... TheGreek Posted January 25, 2023 Posted January 25, 2023 One of Gibson's first electric guitars was an ali bodied, uke sized Electro acoustic. Courtesy of Pawn Stars. Quote

fleabag Posted January 25, 2023 Posted January 25, 2023 I like people who try to think in curved lines. Couldn't live with a 12lb bass let alone guitar, but i loved the idea. His guitar made out of newspapers is just as entertaining, and a little bit lighter They both sound great IMO Quote
Waddo Soqable Posted January 25, 2023 Posted January 25, 2023 I seem to recall a band TAR who had aluminium guitars made for them, a tele & a P bass type spring to mind Quote
itu Posted January 25, 2023 Posted January 25, 2023 Aluminium is only good for light metal. Maybe... Babymetal? By the way, they are touring this spring. No I am not fan, but a friend of mine is. Quote
msb Posted January 25, 2023 Posted January 25, 2023 Trussart have been doing hollow body metal guitars for ages. Works of art. https://jamestrussart.com Quote
itu Posted January 25, 2023 Posted January 25, 2023 alusonic is also using Al in their bass bodies and cabs. Kramer, Travis Bean... but 1000 cans and three months, this guy is really fun! Quote
Grahambythesea Posted January 25, 2023 Posted January 25, 2023 I saw a band outside Starbucks in Seattle called Slimpickin’s and their bassist had an aluminium bodied upright bass. Sounded good. Quote

Newfoundfreedom Posted January 25, 2023 Posted January 25, 2023 I almost posted this video myself a couple of days ago, but then I went to the bar and forgot about it. 😆 I enjoyed the build, and it looked and sounded pretty decent when it was finished. Quote
