Microphonic??

Hey guys, I play an Ibanez Mezzo and didn't like the eq or the pickups really so I've bought an EMG P/J set which just plugs together easily and now it's a lot beefier and sounds great! except this morning when I was practicing for church and the neck P pickup was emitting a kind of ringing noise, sounded sort of microphonic to me.

I didn't like it so I took another bass to church.

Any thoughts what might be causing it guys?

Does it make a noise if you tap on the pickup itself? If so it's microphonic and I've no idea what to do about that; if not, maybe try lowering the pickup a little, having the strings too close can cause strange ringing overtones (something about the magnetic fields interfering with each other, I think).
