Congratulations to new entrant @Wolfram  who managed a very competent win on his debut!

Keen to get the ball rolling for February , he has designed an image and offered the following as an introduction ...

"I created this image with DALL-E, a natural language artificial intelligence image generation system, from the prompt: "a photograph of two convertible red Ferraris racing through a dystopian city at night with lens flare and atmospheric neon lighting". Take inspiration from the subject of the photo, or from the transformational impact AI is about to have across the creative industries - good or bad? "

Here is my contribution to the February 2023 Basschat Composition Challenge, illustrated with a picture chosen by Wolfram.
There are those that praise highly the musicality of the Ferrari exhaust notes; there are even specialists whose sole task is to tune the beggars. I'll let you judge as to the success of their labours...
A collection of sound samples, carefully crafted into a short symphony, with some pertinent tyre squeals for good measure.
Standard Cockos NY bus on the Master channel, a spot of Cockos Compression and EQ, and that's all. No rubber was burned in the making of this epic.
Thanks for listening, if you already have; if you're about to, enjoy.

My entry to the February 2023 Basschat Composition Challenge, Inspired by the picture chosen by the previous winner Wolfram. The picture evoked memories of the computer games of my youth, so I tried to cast my mind back to the kinds of soundtracks those primitive programs would have.

I have covid at the moment (for the first time) so I've had plenty of time on my hands, hence the early submission. 🤣

Tech Stuff - This is a bit of an experiment, composed entirely on Cubasis 3 on my tablet, as I wanted to know how viable it is as a tool for composing bit on the go. It's a bit laggy when inputting via the built in keyboard, requiring a fair bit of moving parts around, but it's useable, particularly when drawing parts in. I transferred it to Cubase Elephants 10 to put a fade on it using the Steinberg project importer, and it did a decent job. Although the drums didn't map properly, so I replaced the tracks using MT PowerDrums. Everything else is the proprietary VSTs.

This one is getting sticky at the minute.

the tunes done , lots of sloppy playing needs re-tracking , but it needs a vocal to make it work , I’m looking for as little as I can to lift the thing, and I can’t get to do the new playing until I’ve can see the way to sort it 😂

When I was a kid in a small village in Cheshire AI meant a chap with a rubber glove impregnating livestock... And if we're talking about gettin' jiggy with the Artificial Insemination Man there's only one choice, Funk!

Quite

in our village it was the turkey blowers who had the privilege of the AI

I shall enjoy the experience of the funk when I’m done on mine

Quite often you hear a song about cars that sounds really cheesy. so here is a proper cheesy one, Ferraris with cheese, Italian cheese.

EZ drummer did the heavy stuff, with an Ibby 6 string through 2 different effects paths on Waves GTR 3 , bass was my Perry bitsa through a waves bass amp sim and the keys were straight from a patch on a digital keyboard.  ed to add a bit more EQ adjusting to give more room for the bass!

All in reaper with a hint of Ozone 8 to bring it together

The vocal was very well practiced and subtely auto-tuned and whacked right up in the mix, cos I know how you all loves it.

Lyrics ...as you probably wont pick them out to easily.

testarrosa parmiagiano

dino 246 mozzarella

toscanello California

gorgonzola mondial

grana Padano gran tourismo

mascarpone berlinetta

maranelo pecorino

scuderia spider ricotto

here comes the fun little darling

here comes the fun and I say

 it’s alright

I don't think I've ever submitted one so early in the month 😂

The music: Driving Ferraris around a dystopian city cost me a lots of 10p pieces in the 80's. Beating the clock, getting time bonuses and moving to the next stage were all that mattered, accompanied by 8-bit hard rock.

The blurb. Yamaha drums with a brass snare, captured by the cheapest Thomann mics and Behringer interface. Bass is a Levinson Blade, guitars are a Bacchus floyd-equipped rock type, into an Engl pre. Synth stuff is Reason, all mushed together in Protools.

In the spirit of getting it done early like some others have, here's mine with a week to spare 🙂

A late night cruise by two artificial Ferraris through the mean streets of Artificial City to an artificial electro-synthpop soundtrack. No strings were plucked in the making of this melodic, mood music.

Recorded with Wavepad and Ableton, I used the MT Power Drum Kit and Ableton's extensive library of sounds for the bleeps, bloops and banging donks.

Phew, made it! Time was short due to illness, family events and work trips... but finally completed.

Blurb:

I've gone for the boy racer angle, although with a punky sound not traditionally heard from such a vehicle..... so I present "Ford Cortina with a Home Made Flame Job".

Technical details: DAW: Studio one, Guitars : Vox Standard 25 and Squier Tele, Bass: Vantage Avenger, Drums: MT Powerdrums, Vocals: Sure SM58

Lyrics in spoiler:

Spoiler

First car when he was a lad  - Third hand from a mate of his dad
Did a flame job did it in a bit of a rush -  Orange paint and a half-inch brush

Chorus: Ford Cortina with a home made flame job

Sexist comments he will shout - Window down elbow out
Standard features are too dull - The gearstick knob is a plastic skull

Cruise around on a Saturday night - first away at the lights
windows tinted smokey grey  - foot to the floor and he pulls away
