Lfalex v1.1
As per the title, recommend and discuss alternative bass choices for your favourite famous bassists based on... well, anything really! (Credit for this idea due to a picture of Tony Levin playing a Dingwall) I'll kick off with; Someone get Dave Ellefson (ex-Megadeth) a Musicman Bongo. I think the tone would suit him down to the ground.
cetera
I always thought that Verdine White should play a white Spector.... would look and sound awesome!
SteveXFR
Jerry Only of Misfits would sound better with anything but the bass he uses. Maybe the older Ibanez SR800 with PJ pickups would work for him
Lozz196
I always thought that Sami Yaffa of Hanoi Rocks sounded better with his Thunderbirds than with his Jazzes.
diskwave
John McVie. Poor guy can hardly play and he's twanging some fancy shmancy thing which you can never hear. A P bass would do him a huge favour.

Mick Fleetwood said in an interview that his drumming was so inconsistent that the only bassist who could play with him was John McVie! So maybe John just thought "sod it, I'll buy what I want"? He's well known for playing Precisions but clearly , judging by the other comment , you were joking anyway.

gjones
Any old bass would be an improvement on that flipping Hofner Paul McCartney plays. He should have stuck with his Yammie. Edited February 6, 2023 by gjones

Chris2112
Imagine if Tony Butler had used a Spector to record the classic Big Country hits. It would certainly sound amazing.

He actually did have a Warwick Thumb around the 'Buffalo Skinners' era, although he didn't seem to use it that much.
Passinwind
Jamerson would have sounded immensely better with an Alembic. Or better yet an upright. And no, I'm not joking. Or am I? 😉
Doctor J
Get Flea back on a Wal - not a Stingray, not a Jazz, not his Jazzray, not his Modulus, not an Alembic - his Wal. Edited February 7, 2023 by Doctor J
