My all time favorite bass line. 8 bars, but maybe I can bend the rules of engagement for this. Kind of more 2 than 4, but the variations are good. 57 minutes ago, Buddster said: Filthy/Gorgeous by Scissor Sisters This is one bar, but I see where you are coming from - would totally work on the 303. 3 hours ago, paul_5 said: Bring down the birds/ groove is in the heart - herbie Hancock and dee-lite respectively. chameleon - herbie Hancock’s headhunters. Boogie Oogie is a contender. 3 hours ago, paul_5 said: Express yourself -NWA is another stellar 2 bar loop Do you know the original? Charles Wright was was Easy E's uncle I think. Does that count if the last two bars are just two tied semibreves (or a breve, I suppose)? Makes it easier to program! 😛 Thanks for the suggestions - a lot to think on!

miles'tone
This would work well with some acidy knob twiddles... I'm a big fan of the 303 btw 🙂👌 Edited February 8, 2023 by miles'tone

bass_dinger
Pachalbels cannon 4 bars long. It's based on a repeating bass motif. There are dozens of songs based on the chord sequence. https://youtu.be/3uhKiGz118k

Downunderwonder
If you can cheat by having 1/4 the tempo you get 16 bars worth to play with. Then a bunch of the suggestions from folks that obviously don't know what a bar is would work. Hats off to Little Green Bag man.

bloke_zero
You get up to 16 divisions per bar, so although in theory you could but you would then restrict yourself to crotchets. The options you get are: 16 slots that can contain note start/note continues or rest per slot (you can shorten the length and also get 3/4 with the first 12 slots) Note pitch Note length (Note pitch and length set in separate passes so you need to have them written down) Octave up/down Accent Slide Having the note and note length separate processes is why you hear so many weird lines - people mash in some random notes then make them all 16ths on the timing pass. It's really awkward unless you have the score in front of you!
