Lozz196
Our rehearsal room has these now instead of their previous Ampeg SVT450s. I`ve used these Peaveys a few times and not been that impressed however last night for some reason I happened on a sound that was really good, sounded a bit GK-like being crisp and clear but with good defined low-end, I was impressed, helped make the band sound great. I`m not going to look at buying one as I love my Ashdown amps but I suppose the moral of this story is that sometimes a good sound is in there somewhere, you just have to persist/work at finding it.
BassmanPaul
It does help if you understand how an amplifier operates and what the controls will do.
Phil Starr
Yeah, I have a Peavey MiniMax and the sound out of the box is just as you describe the Minimega, the fx controls are well chosen and intuitive so it is relatively easy to get the sound you want. the only downside are the noisy fans, not a problem in a rehearsal room or at a gig
jazzyvee
I also had one for a really short time and yes the fan is really noisy. When i sold it to a friend i let him try it out at a gig we were both on and we found the DI was making a noise. So i gave him a separate di box and he was happy. That may well have been my downfall then…… 1
BassAdder60
Yep good sounding amps but very loud fans and decent price Mine was returned quickly because of the horrendous fan noise !! Shame as it spoilt a decent sounding amp
Lozz196
At the volume our drummer (or is that caffeine fuelled chimp maybe) plays there’s no-one on Earth that could hear the fan. In fact I think a 747 could take off and we wouldn’t hear it.
BassmanPaul
Personally I feel that all too much attention is given to fan noise. Solid state output devices need to be cooled to be safe to operate. A fan is the easiest and most efficient means to do so.
