dub_junkie
Arrived this morning. Had an hour spent with it so here goes The good: Love the colour, looks brilliant with the tort plate and matching headstock. After a set up the bass plays great with no noisy electronics and I have zero complaints with the tones on offer. No issues with the tuners either which appear solid enough. Lastly the weight is only 9lbs 2oz/4.14 kg. The not so good: Fret ends were a bit rough (sorted now) The bad: Bass has been dropped in transit by the looks of it. Small chip on the end of the headstock which has taken a small piece of the paint off. At the other end the strap button has been pushed in past the paint and is bent slightly. Bass doesn't appear to have suffered any other damage. Not quite sure what to do now as the small cosmetic issues at both end of the bass don't bother me that much but they shouldn't be there. 3
Paolo85
I would ask for a small discount. Bax gave ne a voucher in a similar situation which was ok for me. I am not bothered by cosmetic issues either but they affect resale value as for some reason people care about this stuff although roadworn basses seem to be quite popular 🤔 Edited April 20, 2023 by Paolo85
neil___lien
Yeah reach out to Thomann & say U don't mind keeping the bass if they give U a discount. 4,14kg is pretty heavy still... hmmm..

Least now you can enjoy it not worrying about it getting marked. As others have said ask. For a discount. Nice looking bass

On the lighter side for Harley Benton JB's from what I've read but is that just for the JB75? Personally 9lbs 2oz doesn't feel like a lot to me. I have four basses all +10lb and one touching 11. I've messaged Thomann re the damage will wait and see what they come back with
neil___lien
Yeah! Got mine today! Really cool... lighter than my Harley Benton MV-4MSB & a tiny bit heavier than the CV60s JB that i have now on sale locally... Pretty noisy so i will have to shield at some point, but other than that, i like it. It does neck dive a little but i can live with it... I went for the white one with mint PG but would like to get a dark red/brownish tort PG in the future. If anyone here wants to swap.. i live in Spain, but i have a friend who flies back pretty often. neil___lien
Well.. i am thinking about sending it back.. it is actually really neck heavy & dives a lot which is a PITA when playing through long practice sessions, the fret ends are pretty sharp & make playing really uncomfortable, and there are bits of stuff sealed into the neck finish that i can feel while playing.. IDK. I'll play it some more tomorrow but yeah i think i am done trying with Thomann...

It's neck divey but you know for the price you can't expect the same level of QC or components as Fender or Sire et al. Sometimes you will get a duffer most often it will be fine. I'm not complaining about neck dive ast these prices points. Edited April 30, 2023 by Bobo_08
Paolo85
Question: is the neck fairly chunky for being a J? I remember in my JB75 it was rather chunky. I am trying to figure out if neck dive would go away with better tuners or wether it may be "structural" Edited April 30, 2023 by Paolo85

Yes, i am aware of that, but i have had or played basses around the same price point that were better.. i went for the HB cuz it's all i can afford right now, but the second hand market might be a better option.. 36 minutes ago, Paolo85 said: Question: is the neck fairly chunky for being a J? I think the thing with this model is that it sits in between some better value models... A bit more money gets you Gotah tuners for example.. like I say QC at this price point can very variable. I think overall though HB stuff is awesome value for money. Out of interest what was the cheaper bass you played that was better?

No fret issues, super smooth neck (now Broncos are more expensive). Same with a Squier Mini P and an Ibanez Mikro. Also played a Squier Affinity PJ bass in a shop in Copenhaguen once that blew my mind. It was in 2018 & i still remember... Also had an Ibanez TMB30.. And a Vintage V74MRJP (fretless Jaco road worn bass)... Now ALL of these basses have gone up in price like crazy but they were "budget" basses that were awesome in that niche of the market. Wow that's some transit damage...its put a flat on the headstock and, for a strap fitting to break thru the paint and still have enough oomph to dent the body.... I'd be backing that, not worth any discount. 😎
therasonic450
Just bought the JB-75MN Vintage in Black. Am normally a P-Bass player but thought I'd have a look at one of these - £149, worth a shot! Body sound, bit heavier than my go-to P but used it at last 2 gigs & no problems with 2 x 1hr sets. One or two frets just needed a couple of strokes with a file, didn't like the strings, but not a lover of D'Addarios, so have changed them, neck is smooth & easy to play, tuners fine & hold tune well. Little bit of adjustment on the bridge, electrics seem to be working well. All in all, well worth the money, P-Bass will still be no 1 but will happily take Jazz too.😎
