Mike Bungo
Hi all I'm just in the process of changing my bass head and I'm looking for guidance I've just bought and returned an Ampeg Micro VR which looked fab and sounded good until you needed volume and then it failed. I had it running through 2 x TC RS112's at 4ohm but sadly it just didn't cut it. Anyway I'm now thinking to buy one of two listed above. I love the Ampeg sound but have an Ampeg Classic Analogue Pre Amp pedal so do I go for the PF350 or the BQ500 with the pre amp pedal connected as I believe that the pre amp in that is very similar the the Micro VR which did sound good........ I'm kinda thinking that the BQ may be a little cleaner so that I'm able to get what I want with pedals with less TC character or colour The money is similar so it's a toss up between the 2 Answers on a post card lol Edited February 23, 2023 by Mike Bungo
BassmanPaul
I don't trust the advertised power ratings of TCE products so I'd go with the Ampeg. Besides I get a kick out of playing through my Ampeg B15NF.
BassAdder60
Pass on both and get the TE Elf !! Amazing little 200w amp that will blow both of those away ! Loud and nice tone and low cost
Mike Bungo
I have an ELF and it still baffles me as to how loud it is
Mike Bungo
I’ve gone with the BQ500 head with the Ampeg classic pre amp and it sounds ace 👍
BassAdder60
I tried the Ampeg Classic Pre Amp and found it a noisy pedal which is a shame as the full fat version sounds amazing
Sparky Mark
If the BQ500 is genuinely 500 watts RMS at 4 ohms then that will be a killer match for two RS112 cabs. The Micro VR is a great amp but has its limits.
