Jono Bolton Posted February 24, 2023 Posted February 24, 2023 I put this together at the end of last year after I bought a Fender Roadworn 50s Precision neck in the Black Friday sale. I was going for a '57 vibe but the body is a Fender MIJ 70s P body in 3-tone sunburst, which isn't strictly accurate. Initially I was going to go for black, though I've swayed towards blonde, and 2-tone sunburst, although there is a visible join and change in grain between the 2 pieces of the body. I like the idea of Shell Pink, but I've already refinished my JV Precision in the same colour. I love Sonic Blue, but it's also not strictly correct for the period. If I'm refinishing it, then the options are limitless really, so I thought I'd canvas opinion on here and see if there are any suggestions that I haven't thought of myself. Quote
Jono Bolton Posted February 24, 2023 Author Posted February 24, 2023 Black and blonde for reference: 1 Quote
ped Posted February 24, 2023 Posted February 24, 2023 Why worry about it being period correct? I think a nice sherwood green would look nice with that scratch plate 2 Quote
Reggaebass Posted February 24, 2023 Posted February 24, 2023 Pelham blue is a nice colour and I think it would go well with the maple Quote

Jono Bolton Posted February 24, 2023 Author Posted February 24, 2023 I'm leaning towards shell pink at the minute, but do I need two pink basses? Quote
PaulThePlug Posted February 24, 2023 Posted February 24, 2023 How about a bit of a warm orange or mustard vibe... would go nice with the plate 2 Quote
Grahambythesea Posted February 24, 2023 Posted February 24, 2023 I like it as it is, save yourself the work and just use it and enjoy! 5 Quote
TheGreek Posted February 24, 2023 Posted February 24, 2023 There are some really nice pastels coming into vogue at the moment. Sea foam green may have started the trend. 1 Quote
Roger2611 Posted February 24, 2023 Posted February 24, 2023 How about a nice Candy Apple Red, this one is red tint over a gold base coat Quote
SH73 Posted February 24, 2023 Posted February 24, 2023 I would personally leave it as it is. But I sprayed mine with red wine red and white pearl scratch plate. Quote

Dan Dare Posted February 24, 2023 Posted February 24, 2023 That is a particularly nice looking sunburst. If it was mine, I wouldn't change it. 3 Quote

JohnH89 Posted February 24, 2023 Posted February 24, 2023 Red oxide primer . It actually looks the mutts nuts . Quote
lidl e Posted February 24, 2023 Posted February 24, 2023 i just ordered my cans today for my p bass project. i went with jet black. got a fender tortoiseshell pickguard for it 1 Quote
miles'tone Posted February 24, 2023 Posted February 24, 2023 I'd leave the pickguard as is with black, but whatever works for you is best. I'm a sucker for black Ps 👍 Quote
Downunderwonder Posted February 25, 2023 Posted February 25, 2023 Option B, change the pick guard over to tort. Job done. If determined to paint it I would have some fun and go with some custom colour and forget about period correct as it is a reproduction anyway. Pearl forest green. Quote
