neilb Posted August 23, 2007 Posted August 23, 2007 (edited) There are some importers that will deliver to your door: www.fareastguitars.co.uk www.craftedinjapan.co.uk www.guitaremporium.co.uk/ Edited August 23, 2007 by neilb

The bass was exactly like the photos posted on the website, and was actually setup quite nicely too.

The Burpster Posted August 24, 2007 Posted August 24, 2007 MD, Theres some on Thomann worth a look....? P upgrade for 329
pete.young Posted August 24, 2007 Posted August 24, 2007 Another endorsement for John at Far East Guitars. I got my CIJ Precision from him. Nice bloke to deal with. I notice though that he's not bringing in a lot of stock at the moment. Another possibility is to import yourself from Ishibashi. Go to http://www.ishibashi.co.jp/u_box for their used stock. I haven't dealt with them, but others on the forum have found them to be helpful and efficient.

ronnus Posted August 24, 2007 Posted August 24, 2007 +1 for Ishibashi. My guitarist tried to buy a strat from craftedinjapan.co.uk but after waiting two months and cij not getting any stock, he asked for his deposit back and bought from Ishibashi last Thursday. The guitar's in the country now, and even after tax etc it's £60 cheaper than cij. I fully intend buying my next Fender from Ishibashi
Dood Posted August 26, 2007 Posted August 26, 2007 Always a popular subject! Take a look at the 'importing guitars' sticky as Ishibashi is a great way to go. I and several others have had good experiences buying direct. Far East guitars are really cool too. John I think would have gone out of his way to help. Good chap! I havent dealt with 'carafted in Japan' and I wont be dealing with guitar emporium.

Without it my guitarist wouldn't have had a clue how to go about importing Any reason why guitar emporium won't get your business dood?

krazy_olie Posted August 27, 2007 Posted August 27, 2007 If you want to try actually one out (the non export models) there's a few shops on Denmark street (no too much of a trek) that stock them, not great prices, but at least you can make up your mind about which model.
dirtystatic Posted August 28, 2007 Posted August 28, 2007 I can't speak for the quality of the CIJ fenders as i havent had the chance to play one, but i believe the range of stock colours and finishes are a hell of alot better than the MIMs.. take this sexpot for example... ive been after a nice precision since i came back from rebellion festival in blackpool and saw chas'n'dave and the animals. the bassist from the casualties also had a lovely jazz, im assuming it was a geddy because of the black block inlays.. may be wrong tho... love the new avatar btw dood
krazy_olie Posted August 29, 2007 Posted August 29, 2007 Just thought I'd add that I've played some rubbish Jap Fenders as well as some exquisite ones, so be wary. There are some very nice MIM basses out there too. I have to say that my favourite Fender for it's price is the Jaguar.
cetera Posted August 29, 2007 Posted August 29, 2007 Does anyone know if there's much difference in quality between Japanese Fenders from the mid 90's and the ones today? I've seen a mid 90's Japanese Fender P bass for under £250 and was wondering what the score was on these...
jchel Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009
Hi, I have decided that I am going to save for a MIJ Fender. LeftyJ Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 I highly recommend www.guitarshogun.com . Ken is a friendly guy, he trades directly from Japan and he's incredibly fast. Trading directly from Japan does however mean the price you pay is strictly for the bass and shipping. You will still be charged separately with VAT and importing duties when the bass arrives in the UK, unlike with Guitar Emporium for example, where the price you pay is the actual full price without any unpleasant surprises upon arrival of the instrument.

With respect to Jchel, your post does appear at first glance to be someone associated with the site posing as a satisfied customer. Apologies if that's not the case, but it hardly inspires confidence and I think I might be forgiven for viewing post like these with suspicion.

I have an 89 MIJ P-bass that is awesome & in my view MIJ / CIJ have always been bang on the money. I'm surprised to to see a post on varying quality - I've owned a 1989, a 1998 J-bass, a 2003 P-bass and a 2007 P-bass with all being exceptional quality. I've also owned a range of guitars. The Japanese stuff has always been staggeringly good.

What were the rubbish Japanese Fenders? In 20yrs I've not personally come across one. I'm just curious. Were they just a bad set up away from being great?

All three posts replying to dormant threads and recommending a dodgy-looking website offering MIJ/CIJ Fenders. Edited August 24, 2009 by Jean-Luc Pickguard
rasher80 Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 All the prices are at least a year out of date as well. I smell bull-sheet
