Hi,

Ā

Can anyone tell me where this wire has detached itself from please?
Ā

This is the control cavity of my Hohner Jack Bass and has stopped working when switched to active.- although the LED still lights up & still works in passive mode.

Ā

All help gratefully received - thank you šŸ‘

What does the white wire lead to - pickups / controls / jack / battery / preamp? What preamp is it? Is the switch for active / passive or coil selection? These details might help us help you. šŸ‘šŸ˜

It's a bit difficult to work out without the above details but ....

Ā

Working on the assumption that the loose wire has not strayed far from it's home, the bottom right connector just below the loose wire in the first two photos, does not have anything connected to it.

Hi,

Ā

Thank you for your replies, very much appreciated.

Ā

The white wire goes to the pre amp which I think is the original ā€˜Artecā€™? one and the switch is to switch from passive to active mode.

Ā

I tried it on the bottom right switch terminal as I thought that was the most likely, but although there was sound when switched to active, it was very low volume and distorted. I also tried it on the top left terminal, but that made no difference at all - if that helps?

Ā

Thanks again šŸ‘

Just call me Sherlock from now on šŸ¤£ (No....really....please DON'T! :shok:)

Ā

Heres a link to the Hohner Jack wiring diagram on some forum called Basschat See Post No 5 It looks like the white wire does indeed come off the bottom right hand terminal šŸ‘ Low volume and distortion could be down to a low power battery?

Ā

Fingers crossed for you.

Iā€™ll give it a go tomorrow - with a new battery and let you know.

Thank you so much again.

Hi,

Ā

Itā€™s me again, sorryšŸ™ˆšŸ™ˆ Iā€™ve soldered the white wire back, but must have dislodged this black one with my very old fat fingersā˜¹ļø It comes from the rear pickup pot body and my very uneducated guess is that itā€™s from the Jack ground / Earth - maybešŸ™ˆ?

Ā

Many thanks šŸ‘

From your original photo, I would say it is the cable I highlighted in yellow (to the Jack?).

Me too, which means that if it doesnā€™t work with the new battery fitted when it arrives tomorrow, now that all the wiring is re connected - Iā€™ll probably revert to plan A which was to convert it to a passive V/V/T layoutšŸ‘

Lead free soldering is pretty rubbish compared to old lead/tin. I built an 18W valve amp lead free, had quite a few dodgy joints I had to re-solder. Guitar soldering always looks a bit rough anyway.
