Old Ozzie Guy Posted March 8, 2023 Posted March 8, 2023 Hi all, I'm down under in Australia. I'm in my 60s, and have started b playing bass again,(I used to play semi pro in 70s and 80s. I'm sure that mid 70s I used a 50 watt Marshall gtr head ,non master vol, into a 2x 15 Accoustic bass bin. Has anyone tried modern Marshall "Origin" 50 Watt hd for Bass gtr?? I know it won't be very loud, and Yes I'm going for a mid-range , overdriven tone..(Jack Bruce??) Sorry for Kooky Question. Quote
Downunderwonder Posted March 8, 2023 Posted March 8, 2023 The old 15's had great sensitivity at the expense of much low bass. You would need a couple to get close to drum set volume. My experience of a Marshall 50w guitar head from the 80's through a single 15 was absolutely uninspiring. A 50w Bassman of the NZ variety sounded great but not enough poke at gig volume. In Aussie you have the Holdens which are very similar. All in all I fail to see the appeal of 50w tube amps for bass unless your band has a quiet stage and a full PA with mics on everything. Quote
Old Ozzie Guy Posted March 8, 2023 Author Posted March 8, 2023 Yeh, I think it right. 2x15 were basically mid range, not bass drivers. I probably will need a V4B ,(100 watt) valve bass hd. I had 1 for a few yrs with a 6x10..both were soooo heavy ,and expensive.. Thanks for replying Quote
