MacDaddy Posted August 23, 2007 Posted August 23, 2007 I have my wireless in a laptop case, and have spare 9v batteries in one of the pockets. I pulled the case out yesterday for the first time in a few months, and one of the spare batteries was really hot. I have a battery tester and it still has all its power, it's normal temperature now and there are no leaks, but I'm assuming this is not good? If anyone knows what's going on, please tell me! cheers McD Quote
The Burpster Posted August 24, 2007 Posted August 24, 2007 is there anyway it could have shorted across the terminals? Old sweety paper etc? They get REALLY hot if they discharge quickly.... (I've actually seen a Nickel Cadmium cell explode when put in dead short form full charge) If not it must be your electric personality........ Quote
Tinman Posted August 24, 2007 Posted August 24, 2007 I had a similar situation whilst carrying 2 of those in my pocket once, wasn't pleasant. What's probably happened with you is one of the batteries will have been shorting against another. Quote
MacDaddy Posted August 25, 2007 Author Posted August 25, 2007 not sure, it still has all its power. Its a Duracell plus, if that makes a difference? Quote

A bit of electrical tape across the terminals will solve your problem. some batteries like Procells (industrial versions of duracells) come with a removable plastoc cap on one terminal and that solves this sort of thing. Steve_K Posted August 28, 2007 Posted August 28, 2007 +1 for Procell's. What I use in my basses Quote
ahpook Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 deffo a short methinks. btw - remember that even a fairly spent battery will read full voltage with a multimeter...the voltage will sag when used with a load. Quote
